EUR/USD world exchange rate today 5/22/2025
On the international market, the euro was recorded at 4:30 a.m. trading at 1.1337 USD/EUR, up 0.0052 VND compared to the closing price yesterday (May 21).
The DXY index, which represents the strength of the USD against major currencies, recovered slightly but still decreased by 0.3%, fluctuating around 99.70.
Moody's downgraded the US sovereign credit rating to Aaa from Aa1, citing fiscal imbalances and rising interest payments. In addition, President Donald Trump's plan to increase the national debt to $36 trillion and his proposed new tax bill worth $3-5 trillion have raised concerns about financial stability.
However, the tax bill has not received support from within the Republican Party itself. In a closed-door meeting in Congress on Tuesday, Mr. Trump was unable to convince his fellow lawmakers to support the bill, mainly because of disagreements regarding tax deduction provisions.
The market is now awaiting preliminary PMI data for May from S&P Global, due on Thursday. The index will provide a snapshot of business activity, and investors will be particularly interested in how companies view import costs, which have been impacted by the White House’s tariff policies.
Federal Reserve officials have been cautious about the inflation risks posed by the new government policies. St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said that if inflation expectations become unstable, the Fed's priority should be to control prices, while asserting that current monetary policy is appropriate in a context of unusually high economic uncertainty.
