Thai rice export prices turn down, Vietnamese rice remains at high level
After a series of price increases, Thai rice export prices have turned down, while Vietnamese rice prices remain high.
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of Thai rice has unexpectedly decreased by 7-9 USD/ton for all three types: 5%, 25%, and 100% broken rice. Of which, 5% broken rice decreased by 7 USD, down to 625 USD/ton; 25% broken rice decreased by 9 USD, down to 566 USD/ton; 100% broken rice decreased by 7 USD, down to 484 USD/ton.

Previously, for 3 consecutive weeks, Thai rice prices were adjusted to increase sharply. However, after a series of consecutive increases, Thai rice prices "cooled down" in the first session of this week.
Meanwhile, the price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam continues to remain at 663 USD/ton - 38 USD higher than the same quality of Thai rice; 25% broken rice is at 643 USD/ton - 77 USD/ton higher than the same quality of Thai rice.
Looking at the long term, experts predict that, due to the threat of El Nino as well as policy responses from major rice exporters and importers in the world, world rice prices will not cool down before 2025. Specifically, the average global rice price in 2023 is 28% higher than in 2022 and is expected to increase by another 6% in 2024.
