According to the plan of the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, today (May 14) will announce initial data on students registering their first choice for grade 10, including regular grade 10, specialized grade 10, and integrated grade 10.
From this data, along with the targets previously announced by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, parents and students can calculate the competition ratio of each school.
The competition ratio is understood as the total number of candidates registering for their first choice divided by the total enrollment quota of the school. This is one of the important indicators that helps students and parents base on to register appropriate choices in the race for a place at a public high school.
According to statistics, in recent years the competition rate for admission to public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City has always fluctuated continuously.
In 2024, after the Department of Education and Training added 5,535 more quotas for 62 schools, the competition rate for grade 10 at a series of top schools decreased sharply.
Among them, Nguyen Huu Huan High School leads despite reducing the competition ratio from 1/3.54 to 1/3.22. Next is Ho Thi Bi High School with a competition ratio of 1/3.06.

These are also the only two schools that maintain a competition ratio above 3. Nguyen Thuong Hien High School slipped to 3rd place when the competition ratio decreased from 1/3.16 to 1/2.81.
The remaining two names in the top 5 are Le Quy Don High School and Pham Van Sang High School.
In the past 3 years, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has held the record for the highest competition ratio of 1/3.55. This school still attracts a stable number of basic registration wishes, always in the top 5.
According to the 2025 enrollment quota announced on April 11, 69 out of 115 schools in Ho Chi Minh City have reduced their enrollment quota for grade 10. The reduction varies from school to school, but the most notable is Thanh Da High School, with a "huge" reduction of 315 enrollment quotas.
Besides Thanh Da High School, some other schools also have a significant reduction in enrollment quota, from 225 to 270, such as Giong Ong To High School, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Da Phuoc, Phuoc Long, Hiep Binh, Tran Khai Nguyen, Ngo Quyen, Vo Truong Toan, Tay Thanh and Vinh Loc.
Among the schools that have reduced their enrollment quotas, there are many schools that have been in the "top" with high entrance scores in recent years, such as Bui Thi Xuan, Nguyen Huu Huan, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Mac Dinh Chi, Phu Nhuan, and Nguyen Huu Cau.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, although the number of schools has reduced their enrollment quota by up to 60%, the enrollment rate has increased due to the decrease in the number of junior high school graduates this year.
It is expected that from 5:00 p.m. this afternoon to 5:00 p.m. on May 19, parents and students can adjust their wishes. The Department of Education and Training notes that they can only adjust wishes, not add or remove candidates from the list.
