In March 2022, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea FC to billionaire Todd Boehly's consortium for £2.5 billion. This amount is still frozen in his British bank account.

The recently published book “Sanctioned: The Inside Story of the Sale of Chelsea FC” paints a completely different picture of billionaire Abramovich, in which the Russian billionaire is said to have worked secretly and tirelessly in an effort to negotiate a peace deal.
In an interview with the book’s publication, billionaire Abramovich spoke for the first time about the Chelsea sale. He said: “Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to go to a Chelsea match and say goodbye properly to the club. I would like nothing more.
I am no longer interested in any role in football clubs, especially professional ones.
“Maybe I can still do something to help young people, to give opportunities to disadvantaged people if there is an initiative that really makes a difference. As for owning a professional club, I have fulfilled that wish in this life.”

Mr Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 for £140m. Since then, he has invested heavily to turn Chelsea into a true force in European football. The Blues are considered one of the pioneers of the “money-buying” movement in Europe.
Under the reign of billionaire Abramovich, Chelsea has been very successful, winning 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 2 Champions League titles and 2 Europa League titles.
In the era of billionaire Todd Boehly, Chelsea also spent a lot of money but they could not have the same position as before. Recently, the London club won the Europa Conference League. That was the team's first title in the new era.
