Heavy defeat of U.17 Indonesia

The 0-6 defeat against U.17 DPRK ended U.17 Indonesia's journey at the 2025 AFC U.17 Championship.

Despite winning all 9 points in Group C, including a surprising victory over U.17 Korea to enter the quarterfinals as the top team, U.17 Indonesia could not continue to cause surprises.

Facing a strong opponent that was superior in both physical strength, technique and playing style, coach Nova Arianto and his team quickly "collapsed" with 2 goals conceded in the first half. In the second half, U.17 DPRK continued to attack and scored 4 more goals, thereby winning 6-0 to enter the semi-finals.

U.17 Indonesia left the tournament with a heavy defeat.

Expert Aris Budi Sulistyo commented on Bola : "U.17 Indonesia played too superficially. Perhaps they were satisfied with their ticket to the World Cup. They were too slow and open, completely different from what they showed in the group stage against U.17 Yemen and U.17 Afghanistan."

Meanwhile, Replublika called the loss to U.17 DPRK a "harsh reality", forcing U.17 Indonesia to reconsider before entering the 2025 U.17 World Cup, taking place later this year.

On forums, many Indonesian fans, although not pessimistic about the defeat, said that what happened in the quarterfinals showed the difference in class and physical strength between U.17 Indonesia and the top teams in Asia.

"This is a total failure. We have to learn a lot from our opponents," commented one spectator. Indonesia U.17 defeated South Korea U.17 by a last-minute penalty, before defeating weaker teams such as Yemen U.17 and Afghanistan U.17.

However, facing a stronger opponent like U.17 DPRK, U.17 Indonesia revealed many weaknesses in both attack and defense. The physical strength of the young players from the archipelago country is also a big question mark, as they lost quickly in the first 20 minutes of each half.

Coach Nova Arianto apologizes to fans

"Congratulations to the DPRK U.17. But regardless of the result, I would like to thank my players for playing so well. Although the result was not as expected, the players learned a lot to prepare for the 2025 U.17 World Cup.

Thank you to the players who fought to achieve the best results. The players sacrificed a lot, but it all paid off when we qualified for the World Cup," coach Nova Arianto affirmed.

After apologizing to the fans, the coach of U.17 Indonesia also shared: "We really need the active support from Indonesian football fans to be able to reach our dream. This team is not perfect and there are still many things that need to be improved through many more challenges," said Mr. Nova Arianto.

Indonesia U17 will participate in the 2025 U17 World Cup in November. This is the second time the young team of the archipelago country has participated in this playground. 2 years ago, Indonesia U17 played in the World Cup as host, earning 2 points after 3 matches when drawing with Ecuador U17 and Panama U17, before losing to Morocco U17 in the final round.
