U17 Thailand squeezed through a narrow door, following U17 Vietnam to attend the 2026 Asian Finals

TPO - On November 30, the 2026 AFC U17 qualifying campaign ended when 7 groups found the owners of the tickets to continue. They will join 9 teams to go straight to the final round to compete early next year. Notably, among these 7 representatives, there are Thailand and Myanmar.

Thailand overcomes Kuwait obstacle to lead group

In Group C, U17 Vietnam easily defeated U17 Malaysia in the final match. Although a draw would have secured the top spot and a place in the finals, U17 Vietnam brought an overwhelming attack that the opponent could not resist. U17 Vietnam ended the match with a resounding 4-0 victory, thereby ending the group stage with a perfect record.

U17 Myanmar also followed the same team in the region. Before entering the final match, U17 Myanmar was 3 points ahead of U17 Syria. They only needed 1 more point to be sure of leading the group and this team completed the goal with a 2-2 draw against U17 Syria. Thus, Myanmar led a rather tight group with big opponents like Syria and Oman. They witnessed the first time in history to participate in the U17 Asian finals.

The next name is U17 Thailand. The path of U17 Thailand is much more thorny than Vietnam and Myanmar because before entering the final match, they were at a disadvantage due to losing to Turkmenistan. On the evening of October 30, U17 Thailand must beat U17 Kuwait and score at least 2 goals or more to lead the group.

Thanks to the home field advantage, U17 Thailand defeated the West Asian representative 3-0 to officially get through the narrow door, winning the ticket to continue. Thus, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia are the 4 representatives of Southeast Asia that have participated in the 2026 AFC U17 Championship finals in Saudi Arabia. Of which, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar passed the qualifying round while Indonesia entered directly because it was among the 8 teams that passed the group stage last time (besides the host Saudi Arabia).

With 4 representatives, Southeast Asia has shown the rise of youth football. In the last organization, only 3 representatives of the region participated in the final round including Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
