Vietnam U20 women's team gathers 29 players, preparing for Asian qualifiers

VHO - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that the Vietnam U20 women's football team will gather on July 1 to prepare for Group B matches in the 2026 Asian U20 Women's Qualifiers, taking place in early August at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi).

Under the leadership of Japanese head coach Okiyama Masahiko, 29 players were called up, including players from the following localities: Ha Nam (8), Thai Nguyen (8), Hanoi (7), Ho Chi Minh City (4), Vinh Phuc and Quang Ninh, each with 1 player.

In his role as head coach, Mr. Okiyama Masahiko said that the list of the Vietnam U20 women's team continues to include most of the players who competed in the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship last June.

In this training session, some players are being treated for injuries and are focusing on the U16 tournament so they cannot attend, so coach Okiyama Masahiko will replace them with other players.

Coach Okiyama Masahiko is with the Vietnam U19 women's team participating in the 2025 Southeast Asian tournament, the first official tournament since working in Vietnam.

Commenting on his upcoming time with the Vietnam U20 women's team, coach Okiyama Masahiko shared: "I am used to coaching in Vietnam. The players are cheerful and friendly, so it is easy to communicate with them. In addition, the players are eager to learn and listen seriously, so I find it easy to work with."

Team concentration list

The Japanese strategist added: " For the upcoming 2026 AFC U20 Women's Qualifiers, we will address issues that arise during the training process, including those drawn from the recent 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship.

We also plan to hold practice matches with many strong teams during the upcoming training trip to Japan and hope to further develop the team, accumulating experience from difficult matches."

As planned, the Vietnam U20 women's team will have its first official training session on the afternoon of July 1.

Coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team will be stationed here for 10 days and then go to Japan for training from July 11 to July 21.

Group B matches of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship qualifiers will take place from August 6 to 10 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
