At the workshop, Independent Economist of the United States Agency for International Development Hoang Ngoc Oanh presented the following contents: Introducing the market research tool system on ITC, instructions and application of the tools; researching trade barriers/import requirements of countries through ITC tools; types of non-tariff barriers in international trade and instructions.

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province Nguyen Tuan Linh said that in an era where information technology plays an increasingly important role in production and business, organizing, conducting market analysis and research in the form of secondary information research via the Internet is a useful method to help businesses save time, costs, and access market information, find customers and potential partners quickly and effectively.

“The workshop will help businesses understand how to deploy, conduct market analysis and research through tools such as Trade Map, Mac Map of the International Trade Center (ITC) - an organization under the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO) established to support small and medium enterprises from developing countries. Through using these tools to exploit the trade data warehouse established by ITC on the Internet, grasp the structure and trends of the world market, helping businesses, exporters, trade promotion institutions and policy makers in the process of operation" - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province Nguyen Tuan Linh added.

According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province, Tien Giang's import and export activities have grown over the years. Specifically, in 2013, the province's export turnover reached 1.2 billion USD; in 2016, it reached 2 billion USD; in 2019, it reached 3 billion USD; in 2022, it reached 4 billion USD and in 2023, it is estimated to reach about 4.7 billion USD. Tien Giang's export turnover ranked 2nd (after Long An) among 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
However, in addition to positive results, there are still some limitations, always posing many risks that can affect stable export growth. Among them, there is the limitation of lack of information about export markets. Very few enterprises can participate in production networks, distribution networks and global value chains. The process of digital transformation and business development on the digital economy and digital technology platforms is slow.
Through the workshop, businesses will improve their digital application skills, promote technological advantages to change and adapt to new business models, contribute to improving business efficiency on e-commerce platforms and introduce the market research tool system of the International Trade Center ITC.
