The province currently has over 130 fixed inter-provincial passenger transport routes from Son La to other provinces and cities, with the participation of transport enterprises inside and outside the province. In particular, our province has 10 units participating in fixed-route passenger transport, operating over 98 inter-provincial and intra-provincial routes, with nearly 300 vehicles; nearly 30 units operating passenger transport by bus, taxi, and contracted vehicles. Faced with the current situation of constantly fluctuating gasoline prices, transport enterprises must proactively take many solutions to operate and maintain operations.
Son La Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company currently has over 100 passenger transport vehicles on routes to provinces, cities and intra-provincial routes. Every time the price of gasoline increases, the transportation fare cannot increase accordingly, the Company has cut unnecessary expenses to compensate for the transportation fare and retain customers. Mr. Nguyen Luong Son, Director of the Company, said: On average, fuel costs account for about 30-35% of the transportation fare, with the current price of gasoline and oil, this rate increases to 45%; for passenger vehicles, it is necessary to reach 60% of the number of seats or more to break even; therefore, it is difficult to operate passenger transport.
Taxi companies are also greatly affected every time gasoline and oil prices increase. Ms. Le Thanh Thuy, CEO of Mai Linh Son La Company Limited, said: The company has more than 180 taxis distributed throughout the province, mainly running on gasoline and oil. With the explosion of electric vehicles, gaining customers is already very difficult, but if the fare increases, the company will lose customers. The company has overcome this by not calculating the depreciation rate of the vehicle, not taking into account the risks, and saving maximum fuel costs.
As a business unit providing tourist and contract car services, Lam Huy Trading and Tourism Company Limited, Chieng Sinh Ward, has more than 40 passenger transport vehicles. Sharing about the difficulties when gasoline prices increase, Mr. Nguyen Hong Cuong, Director of the Company, informed: In the province, there are many units providing contract and tourism cars, with high competition. Affected by the world situation, from mid-2024 until now, gasoline prices have increased many times, causing operating costs to increase by about 10%, in order to retain customers, businesses have had to compensate for losses.
As the main unit supplying gasoline in the province, Son La Petroleum One Member Co., Ltd. (Petrolimex Son La) has developed a widespread network, with 46 gasoline, gas and general trading stores; 40 franchise stores. Mr. Pham Ba Tien, Chairman and Director of Petrolimex Son La, said: Gasoline and oil prices are regulated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance. The unit always ensures strict implementation of the time and price adjustment to ensure no interruption in the supply of gasoline and oil products; sells goods at the listed price, in the right quantity according to customer requirements.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, gasoline and oil prices will continue to fluctuate. To ensure the rights of consumers, authorities need to strengthen quality control and supervision of gasoline and oil trading activities, strictly handle acts of speculation, unreasonable price increases, illegal profits... to ensure the supply of gasoline and oil for production and consumption of people and businesses.
