On the morning of August 3 (Vietnam time), at the Canada Open, the women's singles match took place between No. 1 seed Coco Gauff (USA, currently ranked 2nd in the world in women's singles) and 18-year-old Victoria Mboko. The American athlete was rated higher in terms of experience and achievements.
However, Victoria Mboko shocked the world by taking advantage of her opportunities to defeat Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4. This victory brought the 18-year-old player to her first appearance at the Canadian Open.
Mboko said reaching the quarterfinals was “unbelievable,” especially after beating French Open champion Coco Gauff, according to Reuters. After the match, she even dropped her racket and covered her face in disbelief as the entire stadium stood up and cheered.

Mboko is the youngest Canadian to reach the quarterfinals at the Canadian Open since Helen Kelesi in 1987. She is also the fifth youngest player to defeat the No. 1 seed at a WTA 1000 event since the format was introduced in 2009.
