The village is located by the river, so boat racing has always been a tradition among the villagers' spring festivities.
The section of the river chosen for the race track is quite beautiful, with a wide, straight channel and calm water, running from Ba Bai wharf along the lush green rice paddies of Soi Doi field to the Ruong Lay area. The race marker turns around there.
The village is small, the river is narrow, and each racing boat only has 13 oarsmen. The racers are mostly strong young men from the village, except for the rower (sitting at the back and steering), who is usually older, experienced, calm, and decisive in maneuvering around markers.
Amidst the incessant drumming and the rhythmic "he la he la" chants, on the shore, the cheers of the spectators, who were also the parents, siblings, friends, children, and lovers of the rowers, could be heard.
Originally, it was just an internal race between boats within the village. In later years, the organizers expanded it into an open Dam River race with racing boats from many other localities in the province, and it has become an interesting check-in spot during the spring days.
This game is both entertaining and preserves the traditional cultural beauty of the homeland; it is also an opportunity for people to show solidarity, express their hopes, and pray for a peaceful new year with favorable weather and a bountiful harvest. Amidst countless changes, Dam village is fortunate to still retain this charming and precious tradition!
