According to the Russian news agency TASS , this decision was made following statements by Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea regarding the results of the recent presidential election in Venezuela.

On social media platform X , Foreign Minister Yvan Gil declared: " The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the Republic of Peru, on the basis of Article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961."

Gil said Caracas was forced to make this decision after the Peruvian Foreign Minister's statement, which he considered to "disregard the will of the people and the Venezuelan Constitution."

Earlier, on July 29, Caracas demanded that all diplomatic officials at the embassies of Peru and six other Latin American countries—Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay—leave Venezuela.

Caracas also demanded the closure of the diplomatic missions of these countries for "interference in Venezuela's internal affairs."

Venezuela also withdrew all of its diplomatic staff from those countries.

Earlier that day, Venezuela's National Electoral Council announced the election results, in which President Nicolas Maduro was re-elected for a third six-year term.
