Why are 66 stocks ineligible for margin trading?

The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE) has just announced an updated list of securities that are ineligible for margin trading.

Specifically, the TIX stock code of Tan Binh Production, Trading, Import-Export, Service and Investment Joint Stock Company had its margin trading cut by HoSE because the audited financial statements for 2025 received an opinion that was not a fully unqualified opinion from the auditing firm.

Along with TIX, the list of securities ineligible for margin trading includes 65 other codes. The reasons given by HoSE include securities under warning, control, or trading restrictions; negative after-tax profit; audited financial statements with opinions from the auditing firm; and listing time of less than 6 months…

Reports indicate that 25 stocks had their margin trading suspended due to being placed on a warning list. Another 12 stocks were placed under control.

Three stocks are subject to trading restrictions, including the BCG - TCD pair from Bamboo Capital and Tracodi.

Thirteen stocks had their margin trading cut due to "poor" business performance, specifically negative net profit figures in their audited consolidated semi-annual financial statements for 2025. These include VNG of VNG Group (formerly VNGGames), NVL of Novaland, and GIL of the textile giant Gilimex.

Some stocks have been listed for less than 6 months and are therefore not eligible for margin trading, such as Techcombank Securities (stock code: TCX), Viet A Bank (stock code: VAB), etc.

According to regulations, investors are not allowed to use the credit limit (margin) granted by the securities company to purchase 66 stocks that are on the list of securities ineligible for margin trading.

Margin trading in securities allows investors to borrow money from a securities firm to buy more shares than they have their own capital, using the purchased shares as collateral. This method increases potential profits but also carries a higher risk of loss if the stock price falls.
