Why did Apple remove more than 9,000 Vietnamese apps from the App Store in 2024?

(Dan Tri) - In 2024, Apple removed more than 82,000 applications from the App Store. Notably, more than 9,000 applications from developers in Vietnam were also removed from the app store for iPhone and iPad.

Apple has just released the “App Store Transparency Report 2024”, revealing notable figures about app censorship and management on iOS and iPadOS platforms.

According to the report, in 2024, the App Store received a total of 7.7 million applications for review. However, the technology giant rejected nearly a quarter of them, equivalent to 1.93 million applications that were not allowed to appear on this app store.

The main reasons for rejection include performance rule violations, non-compliance with legal requirements, copying of ideas, outdated features, or even aiding and abetting illegal or fraudulent activities.

Not only did Apple reject new applications, it also took the initiative to remove more than 82,000 applications that were previously available on the App Store in 2024. China and the US led the list with 12,900 and 11,400 applications removed, respectively.

Notably, Vietnam ranked third with 9,664 apps removed from the App Store. The main reasons cited by Apple were fraud and unfair competition, including misleading app names, using automated tools to fake review results, or violating other App Store policies.

In addition, many applications are also removed at the request of governments because they violate the laws of the host country. In 2024, Apple received a series of such requests, typically China with more than 1,100 applications, Russia with 171 applications and South Korea with 79 applications.

The report also revealed that Apple suspended 146,757 app developer accounts in 2024, including 2,024 accounts suspended for fraudulent behavior. Although most suspended developers filed appeals, most were unsuccessful.

These efforts by Apple helped protect users from more than $2 billion in losses due to fraud and fake, deceptive apps in 2024.

Also according to the "App Store 2024 Transparency Report", this platform recorded an average of 813 million weekly visitors and 839 million weekly app downloads, showing the appeal and huge scale of operation of this app store.
