Why can't I use level 2 electronic identification accounts when flying?

This morning (June 1), the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam met with relevant units to implement the use of level 2 electronic identification accounts for passengers when checking in for flights.

Previously, Noi Bai airport ( Hanoi ), Phu Bai (Hue) and Van Don airport have piloted the use of biometric authentication for air passengers.

A representative of Noi Bai International Airport said that the pilot implementation began late this morning at the airport. Passengers using level 2 electronic identification accounts have been granted electronic identification by the police on the VNeiD system.

To use it for check-in procedures when flying, passengers log in to VNeiD and give the airline staff the code to scan to replace their identification documents or citizen identification cards.

Noi Bai Airport representative also noted that the pilot is applicable to passengers who voluntarily have a level 2 electronic identification account on VNeiD. The airport recommends that passengers bring an additional citizen identification card or personal identification document in case the account has problems and they cannot log in to VNeiD.

In addition, airports have not yet invested in scanner systems, so they use personal phones of airline staff to scan identification codes. Therefore, to avoid congestion, passengers should log in to their accounts before checking in for airport staff to scan.

From June 1, pilot program not requiring citizen identification when taking flights

Meanwhile, no passengers flying from Tan Son Nhat have been able to use their electronic identification accounts instead of their citizen identification cards when checking in for flights. The reason is that they are still waiting for the police to organize training for employees and security officers at the port.

Specifically, a representative of Tan Son Nhat Port informed that, according to regulations, in order to be able to carry out this work, aviation security officers and employees must use smartphones, register for a level 2 electronic identification account, and be instructed on how to organize implementation and check passenger information...

To prepare for the pilot support as planned by the Civil Aviation Authority, Tan Son Nhat has organized the registration of level 2 electronic identification accounts for all officers and employees at the port over the past week. However, up to now, the Ministry of Public Security has not yet planned to organize training for the port's security staff.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport also recommends that passengers during the pilot phase should not rely too much on level 2 electronic identification accounts because in case the phone has problems or the information does not match, without a citizen identification card, the information cannot be processed to board the plane. Therefore, passengers should still be cautious and bring identification documents according to regulations.

In particular, families with small children should note that all documents must be stamped with a red seal. Airport security does not accept photocopied identification documents such as birth certificates without a notarized copy of the original.

Speaking to Thanh Nien , an official from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that on May 31, the Ministry of Transport issued a document allowing the trial, so yesterday the units received instructions from the Authority on this method. Because the form is so new, there are many problems. This morning, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order - C06 (Ministry of Public Security) held a meeting with airlines and airports to agree on the understanding and implementation.
