To cope with storm Matmo, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to units in the industry to deploy 24/7 duty. According to the authority, the three airports directly affected are Van Don, Cat Bi and Noi Bai. Tho Xuan, Vinh and Dien Bien airports are also advised to proactively update information and take precautions when the storm develops abnormally.
For airports directly affected, Vietnam Airports Corporation is responsible for presiding over and coordinating with agencies to inspect infrastructure and communication systems to promptly detect and handle damage, ensuring safety for works, stations and operations.
Units deploy storm prevention plans, clear the flow in the port, protect works, vehicles, equipment, limit damage caused by storms and quickly stabilize aviation operations to serve passengers. Airports under construction are required to determine technical stopping points to temporarily stop construction in bad weather, ensure safety and limit damage.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the morning of October 6, the center of storm Matmo entered Mong Cai, Quang Ninh province, then moved along the northern border, causing heavy rain in mountainous and midland provinces. Hanoi is unlikely to be affected by the storm, but from early morning of October 6 to the end of October 7, there will be 70-120 mm of rain, with some places receiving over 150 mm. Hanoi authorities encourage people to work online, and the Department of Education and Training is considering letting students stay home from school.
