Focus on restoring production

In Phu Binh commune, more than 1,270 hectares of rice and about 200 hectares of annual crops were deeply flooded, thousands of livestock and poultry died, 89 hectares of aquaculture ponds were damaged, the total estimated value was over 59 billion VND. Not only Phu Binh, the localities in the Cau River basin were all seriously affected in the agricultural sector.

To promptly restore production, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed specialized units and local authorities to mobilize maximum resources, repair production facilities, guide farmers to restore crops, and adjust crop structure to suit reality.

At the same time, localities focused on draining water, clearing water flows, dredging canals, leveling flooded fields, and promptly creating conditions for planting short-term crops to make up for lost output.

In vegetable growing areas, farmers proactively sprayed disinfectants, treated soil, prepared seeds and production materials. After the floods, the risk of disease in livestock increased, so the government and veterinary sector coordinated to clean up, collect waste, disinfect barns and vaccinate livestock, especially poultry.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Phu Binh Commune People's Committee, said: We focus on directing production restoration, stabilizing people's lives, reviewing economic targets for 2025 to make appropriate adjustments, and at the same time guiding hamlets to deploy agricultural and forestry production according to plan.

In Soi Coc field, Trung Thanh ward, people are also urgently cleaning up trash, dredging ditches, and improving the soil to plant winter crops such as corn, sweet potato leaves, and green vegetables. Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, group 3, Trung Thanh ward, shared: My family has more than 3 sao of rice that was damaged by flood, now we are improving the soil to plant sweet potato leaves. The soil was washed away so we have to add more fertilizer and improving products before we can plant.

Tan Khanh commune, a locality with a tradition of large-scale livestock farming, also suffered heavy losses with more than 60 buffaloes and cows; 1,297 pigs; over 58,000 poultry killed or swept away; more than 440 hectares of rice, 29 hectares of perennial trees, 96 hectares of aquatic products damaged, total damage estimated at more than 124 billion VND. Mr. Nguyen Ba Hoach, Na Ri hamlet, said: Due to the impact of storms and rains, rice productivity has decreased significantly. People are taking advantage of favorable weather to improve the soil and sow winter crops.

Mr. Vu Khac Tan, Head of Na Ri hamlet, informed: The commune has directed hamlets to focus on restoring production, especially in livestock farming. Households are instructed to vaccinate and spray disinfectants every 15 days to protect livestock.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province has more than 13,500 hectares of crops and aquatic products damaged and over 1 million livestock died or were swept away. To overcome this, the Department is coordinating with localities to review and propose policies to support seeds, materials, chemicals, and vaccines for people; at the same time, mobilizing forces of unions, businesses, and cooperatives to join hands to support farmers to restore production, not to interrupt the agricultural supply chain in the area.

Do not let the land rest

Throughout the southern fields of the province, the sound of plows and harrows was bustling again. The bustling working atmosphere demonstrated the determination not to leave the land fallow and to quickly start the new crop. Agricultural material suppliers actively transported goods, fertilizers, seeds and animals to each locality to promptly serve the people.

Ms. Tran Thi Tuyen, Chairman of Tan Khanh Commune People's Committee, said: The commune has directed the review of the entire production area. Areas that meet the conditions will organize early winter planting, mainly potatoes and vegetables. In livestock farming, the locality guides people to clean and disinfect barns, restock in time to meet the needs of Tet, and at the same time strengthen propaganda on vaccination to prevent disease outbreaks.

In vegetable and flower growing areas such as Phan Dinh Phung and Linh Son wards, people are also urgently restoring production. These are large areas supplying green vegetables and fresh flowers to the urban market and supermarkets. Mr. Nguyen Khanh Long, group 40, Phan Dinh Phung ward, said: My family is replanting tomatoes, beans, and mustard greens; at the same time, repairing the greenhouse and automatic irrigation system to be ready for Tet.

Mr. Doan Ba Bich, Hoc residential group, Linh Son ward, shared: The land has dried, people have started to make beds, plant vegetables and reinforce the nets covering the seedlings. The goal is to restore production soon to have enough supply for the year-end market.

Not only focusing on immediate solutions, localities also step up propaganda to raise awareness of natural disaster prevention and control among people, encourage cooperatives and production households to boldly change crop and livestock structures to be more suitable to extreme weather conditions.

Along with that, the provincial Department of Agriculture is reviewing and supplementing investment plans, solidifying irrigation systems and intra-field canals, proactively responding to natural disasters, and ensuring long-term production safety.

It can be seen that, despite suffering heavy damage from storm No. 11, with the province's strong leadership and the people's spirit of overcoming difficulties, Thai Nguyen has been quickly recovering agricultural production, ensuring the planting season and restoring livestock, creating a foundation for the new crop to achieve good results.
