The coastal city of Nha Trang is likened to “A flower basket on the shore of the ocean”. My has since become a proud and admiring name that tourists use to honor the beauty of the sea, land and sky of Nha Trang.

Nha Trang people believe in a feng shui element about the land that helps make this city develop. That is why there is a saying that Nha Trang is the land of "four tides return, four animals gather".

So what is the land of "Four tides return, four animals gather"?

1. The Four Tides

Originated from the location of Nha Trang city. Specifically, the city is surrounded by Cai River with the northern branch flowing into Cua Lon, and the southern branch flowing into Cua Nho, at the same time, the outside is the East Sea of Vietnam, creating a closed water circle surrounding 4 sides. It is called "tu thuy trieu quy" - meaning the land is surrounded by water on all 4 sides and this is a very good land position.

2. Four animals gathering

According to the ancients, a good and sacred land must gather the quintessence of heaven and earth, be the place where the four sacred animals from all directions come to reside and guard. Therefore, in Nha Trang, the ancients borrowed the image of four mountains in the city to symbolize the four sacred animals guarding the land, building a harmony between heaven and earth to create a beautiful scene like a fairyland, also called "Tu Thu Tu". And the four mountains symbolizing the four sacred animals mentioned above are Hon Trai Thuy, Hon Hoa Son, Nui Canh Long and Hon Sinh Trung.

Trai Thuy Island

Hon Trai Thuy in Nha Trang has the shape of a bat lying with its wings spread out, its head facing the southwest. In front of the mountain, at the “bat’s head”, there is a round lake like the moon, so it is called “Ngoc buc ham hoan”, meaning Bat holding a pearl ring.

In feng shui, the Bat symbolizes Phuc Duc, great fortune and great profit, bringing peace, luck and prosperity to the place where it resides. In addition, the white Buddha statue on the top of the mountain (Long Son Pagoda) has contributed to making Nha Trang more peaceful in the face of natural disasters and fluctuations.

Hoa Son Island

Since its primitive days, this mountain was not cut into two small mountain clusters so it looks like a Turtle because the small mountain part facing the East Sea looks like a "Turtle's head" so it is called "Kim Quy dai thap", meaning a golden turtle carrying a tower.

The location of the old Hoa Son island is where Nha Trang Stone Church is today.

Turtles are considered to be long-lived creatures and are often used to symbolize stability, longevity and sustainability.

Canh Long Mountain

The mountain is located near Cau Da port and is where Bao Dai Palace is located. Canh Long mountain, if viewed from above, looks like a dragon wriggling and playing with the waves. Feng Shui calls it “Thanh Long hy thuy”, meaning the Green Dragon plays with water.

Canh Long Mountain, and above is Bao Dai Palace.

Thanh Long means Green Dragon, which is considered to represent growth, economic development and wealth. And the image of Canh Long mountain has an optimistic meaning of money like water for the land it covers. The development of Nha Trang tourism is a right direction for the development of the profitable smokeless economy of the coastal city of Nha Trang.

Sinh Trung Island

Hon Sinh Trung is shaped like an elephant next to Ha Ra wharf of Cu river, feng shui calls it "Bach tuong huyen ho", meaning white elephant rolling the lake.

In feng shui, white elephants are considered to symbolize enthusiasm, perseverance, intelligence and success in business.

Nha Trang City is located in Nha Trang Bay on the Pacific coast, blessed with blue sea, long white sand beaches and guarded by 4 mountains at 4 corners, each mountain carries the soul of sacred animals: Dragon, Turtle, Bat, Elephant of Vietnamese culture.

And it is thanks to these factors that Nha Trang city has the harmony of yin and yang of the earth's energy and prosperity. That is why until today, every time coming to Nha Trang, people do not forget to find and understand about "Tu thuy trieu quy, tu thu tu".
