'Improving the rate of students graduating on time' is the topic of a discussion recently organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University in an effort to ensure training quality and enhance reputation throughout the system.
Not beyond the goal of finding a synchronous solution so that member schools can increase the rate of students graduating on time compared to the present, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai - Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University - emphasized that this is an important requirement of the central government, also clearly showing the concern of the Party and State for the quality of university education as well as the responsibility of training institutions in ensuring the learning progress of learners.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that one of the reasons why the on-time graduation rate is still low is mainly because students have not accumulated enough credits as required and have not met the output standards in foreign languages.
Other reasons mentioned such as psychological pressure, health, financial difficulties… also contribute to affecting students' graduation progress.
Faced with the fact that the rate of students graduating on time at some schools is not as expected, opinions at the discussion shared a few groups of solutions. That is to review and standardize the entire training management system, design clear output standards associated with the assessment process. At the same time, lecturers need to advise and support students right from the beginning of the course.
Other opinions suggest applying artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to predict the risk of slow progress, integrating learning tracking tools. Along with that, the psychological factor of students cannot be ignored. Therefore, it is necessary to consider screening for risks that cause psychological pressure on students in parallel with improving the capacity of the consulting team and connecting professionals to be able to support students more comprehensively.
The leaders of Ho Chi Minh City National University hope that the units will review the training programs, improve management efficiency and further support students. Ho Chi Minh City National University will closely coordinate with member schools to best accompany and improve this rate.
