Why is 5G network access speed slow?

ANTD.VN - Some Viettel 5G users reported that their devices were hot and the 5G network speed was slow in the first days of commercialization.

Tốc độ mạng 5G Viettel cao gấp nhiều lần 4G

Viettel 5G network speed is many times higher than 4G

Mr. Hoang Duc Thanh - wireless architect, Viettel Network Corporation said, because 5G is a newly deployed service, currently only concentrated in some large urban areas, the number of 5G stations is not as much as 4G, plus the psychology of users "eagerly" checking the speed, so at some times and locations, 5G speed is not as expected.

The speed of 5G service experience depends on factors such as: user location near or far from the station, strong or weak signal, where the routing server is located.

According to Mr. Hoang Duc Thanh, during low-load hours, a subscriber can experience a speed of 300-400 Mbps. The slow 5G speed situation will improve in the near future when the service is popularized and the number of subscribers checking will decrease.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam - Deputy General Director of Viettel Network Corporation added that currently there are two popular speed testing software: SpeedTest and iSpeed of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Both of these applications use multiple random servers for testing, so in case the algorithm gives an old configuration server, it will also lead to a decrease in the measured results.

Explaining the situation where some subscribers reported that their devices were hot and drained battery when using 5G services, Mr. Hoang Duc Thanh said that the new technology has higher speeds, requiring higher processing capacity of the device, leading to higher power consumption on the device. For example, the 5G broadcast bandwidth is 100 MHz, 5 times higher than 4G technology, so the device requires more complex terminal processing.

According to calculations, 5G technology will cause the device to consume about 5-10% more battery than 4G.

Viettel representative also added that to use 5G in Vietnam, you must be a subscriber of a network provider that provides 5G, live in an area with 5G waves, use a phone or tablet that supports 5G, and turn on 5G mode on your phone. If you use a 4G or higher SIM, you do not need to switch to a 5G SIM.

Currently, some devices are hand-carried phones, locked versions for each specific market that do not support SIM cards and cannot access Viettel's 5G network, but international hand-carried smartphones can still use the service normally.

To temporarily solve this problem, Viettel representatives recommend that users can temporarily use the available configuration modes on the device such as 5G On (always turn on 5G) or only turn on 5G when there is a need to download large data.

When registering for 5G service, customers can ask support staff to see if the device is compatible.

5G is the fifth generation of wireless mobile technology, with high speed, low latency, connecting 10-100 times more devices than other technologies. In particular, 5G speed is much higher than 4G, with theoretical speeds of up to 10 Gbps. In real conditions, 5G gives users speeds of less than 1 Gbps, 10 times faster than 4G.
