Pakistan's Supreme Court has ruled that the military's arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on corruption charges was illegal.
On May 11, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a ruling stating that the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on corruption charges was illegal.
According to Geo TV, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that the military’s arrest of Imran Khan was illegal. The panel also expressed opposition to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim that he was “abducted” from the Islamabad High Court and flogged.
Khan's arrest on May 9 sparked a wave of violent protests across the country, leaving at least nine people dead, hundreds of police officers injured and more than 2,000 protesters arrested. The Pakistani government had to mobilize the army to help end the riots.
Mr Khan, 72, lost his premiership after a no-confidence vote in parliament in 2022.
