Vietnam - Austria cooperation in training and research helps promote innovation

Many cooperation programs have attracted many professional groups and students, forming a network connecting universities and businesses of the two countries.

Last weekend, at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in the capital city of Vienna, Austria, a program was held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of cooperation in training and research between this school and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST).

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and Slovenia, Dr. Vu Le Thai Hoang, attended the event, with the participation of leaders, lecturers, scientists and students of BOKU as well as Vietnamese students studying and researching at BOKU.

Speaking at the event, BOKU President, Professor Eva Schulev-Steindl, expressed pride in the quarter-century of cooperation between the two universities.

According to him, success lies not only in achievements in training and research, but also in building close relationships between lecturers, scientists and trust in cooperation between the two sides, thereby contributing to the scientific and technological development of the two countries.

For his part, Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of HUST, said that the cooperation results between the two universities have significantly contributed to the professional development of HUST scientists and lecturers, while strengthening the sustainable cooperative relationship between the two universities.

That cooperation journey started with enzyme technology research in 2001, and then expanded to many new research fields, gradually forming a model of training cooperation closely combined with scientific research.

Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang congratulated the 25-year cooperation achievements between the two universities and emphasized that the cooperation was not only successful in terms of academics and training for HUST, but also promoted cooperation in research, innovation and technology transfer, contributing to the development of science, technology and economy for the country.

Over the past 25 years, the cooperation programs between HUST and BOKU have trained more than 10 masters and doctoral students; conducted hundreds of exchanges of lecturers, scientists and students; successfully implemented many training and research cooperation projects funded by the European Union (EU); published more than 30 publications and scientific works in ISI/Scopus journals, co-authored more than 20 conference papers; and successfully organized many international scientific forums.

Following those successes, BOKU and HUST are continuing to seek new directions to create breakthroughs in science and technology, train talents as well as solve common challenges in the fields of food technology, biotechnology, chemistry and environmental science.

Many ideas have been put forward for developing training and research programs in the fields of climate change response, food safety, green transformation and emission reduction to further promote academic exchanges and exploit the research potential of both sides.

Both universities affirmed that they will continue to promote sustainable cooperation and build typical cooperation models to spread academic values ​​and contribute more to the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the two countries.
