The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed that it will support each member federation participating in the 2023 Asian Cup with 200,000 USD, equivalent to 4.9 billion VND.
This money will help the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have more funds to prepare for team activities, such as training and friendly matches. The Vietnamese team will go to Qatar for training from January 5 and play a closed friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on January 9, three days before the opening match against Japan in Group D.
In addition to the support money for the 24 Confederations with teams participating in the 2023 Asian Cup, the AFC announced a bonus of 5 million USD, equivalent to 122 billion VND for the champion. The runner-up team will receive 3 million USD, while the two losing semi-finalists will receive 1 million USD. The champion and runner-up teams will donate 5% of the bonus, 250,000 USD and 150,000 USD respectively, to the Asian Dream Fund to serve the social responsibility activities of continental football.

The AFC's total prize and support of $14.8 million is equal to the 2019 Asian Cup in the UAE and lower than three tournaments in Europe, Africa and South America.
The Euro 2020 European Championship has 24 teams with a total prize of 400 million USD, of which 37 million USD goes to the champion team. The Copa America South American Championship has 10 teams with a total prize of 19.5 million USD, of which 6.5 million USD goes to the champion team. The African Championship - AFCON - 2023 has 24 teams with a total prize of 16.2 million USD, of which 5 million USD goes to the champion. And the North and Central American Championship - Gold Cup - 2023 has 16 teams with a total prize of 4.7 million USD, of which 1 million USD goes to the champion team.
The 2023 Asian Cup will be held from January 12 to February 10 at 9 stadiums in Qatar. The tournament is expected to have the same high standards as the 2022 World Cup. In addition to the VAR video assistant referee system, this is also the first continental tournament to apply semi-automatic offside technology.
Vietnam is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. The goal of Philippe Troussier and his team is to get past the group stage, like in 2007 and 2019.
The team is currently training at the Youth Football Training Center located on the VFF campus. The force was severely damaged when injuries forced a series of veterans such as Dang Van Lam, Thanh Chung, Que Ngoc Hai, Tien Linh to say goodbye. The current squad only has Do Duy Manh, Ho Tan Tai, Nguyen Quang Hai, Do Hung Dung and Nguyen Van Toan who participated in the 2019 Asian Cup.
