Vietnam makes its mark as a pioneer in 5G technology

(Chinhphu.vn) – On October 15, Viettel High Technology Industries Corporation (Viettel High Tech) and Qualcomm jointly organized an international conference with the theme "5G Open RAN Connect 2025". This is a landmark event, affirming Vietnam's position on the global 5G technology map.

5G Open RAN Connect is an annual event on the field of Open RAN (open radio access network) in Vietnam. The conference has the participation of telecommunications experts from the world's leading organizations such as the Global Mobile Association (GSMA), Open RAN Association (ORAN Alliance), Qualcomm Group, Gartner...

At the conference, Viettel High Tech announced that the unit has deployed 2,300 5G Open RAN stations, with a plan to deploy 2,500 stations nationwide by the end of 2025.

According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Information Technology Industry ( Ministry of Science and Technology ), Viettel High Tech's choice to research and develop Open RAN is in line with the goal that the Ministry of Science and Technology is aiming for: Vietnam must master the design, research, and production of 5G equipment - as a symbol of national technological autonomy.

Thanks to the application of the Open RAN platform, Viettel High Tech has shortened the product development time by half, to only 12 months compared to the traditional 24-month process. After successful deployment in the country, Viettel plans to expand to the Indian, UAE, US markets..., while developing the 5G-Advanced, 6G generation and level 4 automated network.

The world's leading technology analysis organization Gartner has recognized Viettel High Tech as the only Southeast Asian enterprise recognized as a Pioneer in commercializing 5G Open RAN base stations based on ASIC chipset platform (5G-specific integrated circuit).

According to Gartner, Open RAN and AI-RAN are opening a period of "network democratization" - democratization of global telecommunications infrastructure, in which Viettel emerges as a potential new supplier with large-scale deployment capacity and advanced technology.

At the conference, the world's leading telecommunications experts also recognized Vietnam's remarkable progress in the field of 5G research and development, especially in the commercialization of Open RAN technology. The large-scale deployment of 5G Open RAN Connect 2025 stations has become an important turning point affirming Vietnam's position on the global 5G technology map.

With the recognition of Gartner, the companionship of Qualcomm and positive reviews from other prestigious units, Viettel not only proves its technical capacity, but also demonstrates Vietnam's pioneering role in the new generation telecommunications ecosystem, contributing to the goal of building digital sovereignty and developing Make in Vietnam technology globally.
