On June 22, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the US State Department's release of the 2023 Report on the situation of human trafficking in the world , Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said:
The Vietnamese Government advocates promoting legal, safe and orderly migration, while resolutely combating illegal migration, people smuggling and human trafficking.
In recent times, Vietnam has continued to resolutely implement the Program on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking for the period 2021-2025 and orientation to 2030 and achieved many important results such as: enhancing the effectiveness of inter-sectoral coordination; improving statistical work; stepping up investigation and handling of human trafficking crimes and communication on prevention and raising awareness.
Vietnam is making efforts to implement the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) according to the Plan issued by the Prime Minister on March 20, 2020, to strengthen a transparent migration environment, protect the legitimate rights and interests of migrants, and prevent the risk of human trafficking in international migration activities.
Vietnam acknowledges that the US side has made a more positive assessment in the 2023 Report on the World Trafficking in Persons of the US Department of State. In that spirit, we hope that the two sides will continue to cooperate closely in the coming time so that the US side can have a more objective, accurate and comprehensive assessment of the situation and Vietnam's substantive efforts. We are also willing to discuss with the US side as well as relevant parties on specific cooperation issues to effectively implement the work of preventing and combating human trafficking.
