Vietnam won 2 Gold Medals at the 2024 International Olympiad in Informatics

Specifically, Pham Cong Minh, a 12th grade student, and Hoang Xuan Bach, an 11th grade student, from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, both won gold medals.

Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 10th grade student from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi , won the silver medal.

Pham Ngoc Trung, a 12th grade student from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won a bronze medal.

The 36th IOI was held in person from September 1 to September 6 in Alexandria, Egypt. The 2024 IOI was attended by 353 contestants from 91 countries and territories (in addition to Russia, Belarus and Australia competing under the Olympic flag) and 9 contestants competing online from Israel, Iran and Germany.

With 100% of the contestants winning medals, the Vietnam National IOI Team is in the group of 4 countries and territories with the highest results according to the Medal table, after the United States, Japan and Poland (according to the results announced on the website of the IOI 2024 Organizing Committee, not ranking the Russian and Israeli IOI teams).

According to the regulations of the IOI Council 2024, the International Olympiad in Informatics has two official competition days. On each competition day, candidates will take a 5-hour computer programming test and solve 3 problems with rich content. The results will be automatically graded online by the system and the live scoreboard will be announced throughout the two competition days (online). This year's exam is highly difficult, requiring the ability to apply knowledge flexibly and great creativity of the candidates. With the strong development of the digital technology industry, countries are increasingly investing heavily in the team and the competition between countries is getting higher in this exam.

The outstanding achievements of the Vietnamese national team at IOI 2024 continue to affirm the position of Vietnamese education in the top intellectual arena, while affirming the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The IOI 2024 Organizing Committee will hold the Closing and Award Ceremony on Friday evening, September 6.
