On the evening of October 28, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation returned to Hanoi , successfully concluding their working trip to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and related Summits. The Prime Minister's working trip continued to convey the message of a Vietnam that always upholds the spirit of responsibility, proactiveness and creativity, joining hands with member countries to build a united, stable, self-reliant, sustainable and inclusive ASEAN Community.
Taking place in the context of many changes in the world, posing challenges for the world and the region, the 47th ASEAN Summit and related Conferences have achieved many important results. ASEAN continues to demonstrate its central and leading role in maintaining peace and stability in the region; is a growth engine and an indispensable link in the global supply chain, trade and investment connection.
The Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has made many important contributions to the ASEAN summits. The Prime Minister's speeches emphasized the importance of peace and stability, stating that this is a prerequisite for development, promoting the significance of ASEAN solidarity, affirming Vietnam's commitment to contribute to ASEAN, for the people's vital interests. The Prime Minister's sharing, especially the proposal that ASEAN needs to strongly promote three sources of strategic strength: the strength of solidarity and unity; dynamic vitality, autonomy, self-reliance and efforts to create innovation and creativity have been recognized and highly appreciated by member countries and partners.
At the summits between ASEAN and its partners such as the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, India, the United Nations, etc. and at the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared Vietnam's views and proposed major orientations to consolidate, enhance and develop cooperation between ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular with its partners in a strong, substantive and effective manner, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and promoting cooperation in the region and the world.
A highlight of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip was that the Prime Minister had a brief meeting with US President Donald Trump within the framework of the ASEAN - US Summit. The two leaders agreed to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the US to become increasingly in-depth, substantive and effective, including the signing of a reciprocal trade agreement between Vietnam and the US in the direction of fairness, equality and promoting US investment in Vietnam. At the proposal of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President Donald Trump responded positively and took note of the proposal to recognize Vietnam as a market economy, remove Vietnam from the D1, D3 strategic export list and directed senior US officials such as the Secretary of the Treasury and the Trade Representative present at the conference to promptly respond to these issues for Vietnam.
At the meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated China on successfully organizing the 4th Conference of the 20th Central Committee, building the 15th Five-Year Plan with a high-quality development orientation; at the same time, he informed Prime Minister Li Qiang about Vietnam's new theoretical and practical achievements, and preparations for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The two Prime Ministers also discussed many solutions to promote economic-trade relations, investment, and railway infrastructure connection.
In Malaysia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and interacted with the top leaders of all countries and major international organizations attending the summits. This once again showed that the countries highly respect and value Vietnam's role, prestige and international position in the international arena. At the same time, it also continued to affirm that Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, being a good friend and a reliable partner with all countries is very correct and appropriate in the current context. In an atmosphere of sincerity, trust, openness and closeness, the leaders discussed in depth very specific and substantive cooperation issues, opening up many new cooperation opportunities. Leaders of many countries and international organizations highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, foreign affairs achievements, and measures taken by Vietnam to respond to global challenges. They also welcomed Vietnam's efforts in preventing IUU fishing, and agreed to closely coordinate with Vietnam to soon remove the EU's "yellow card".
During his three-day stay in Malaysia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a busy schedule with nearly 50 multilateral and bilateral activities. The Prime Minister's working trip contributed to strongly affirming Vietnam's pioneering role and responsible contribution to ASEAN, participating in solving common regional and world issues; as well as its active participation and efforts to contribute to the common success of the Summits. In addition, the working trip also contributed significantly to deepening and increasing the effectiveness of the relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN countries, as well as ASEAN's partner countries.
