Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang
At a regular press conference on the afternoon of May 29, stating Vietnam's stance on the recent armed clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers in the border area, which occurred right after the ASEAN summit, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that information about the incident had been communicated by both sides. "We believe that all disagreements will be resolved by the parties through dialogue and peaceful measures, in accordance with the agreement of the two countries, the spirit of ASEAN solidarity and international law."
Cambodian and Thai soldiers briefly exchanged gunfire on May 28 in a disputed area between Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province and Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani province. The incident resulted in casualties. The two sides later held a phone call and agreed to a ceasefire.
