Author Sherman and his brother Robert, who died in 2012, worked as staff composers for Disney from 1960 to 1973.

Mary Poppins - Chim Chim Cher-ee
Chim Chim Cher-ee, a hit from the 1964 film Mary Poppins , earned the brothers an Academy Award for Best Song.
Robert Sherman wrote the lyrics while Richard composed the music, following in the footsteps of his father, the famous composer Al Sherman.
The brothers were also responsible for hits like It's a Small World and I Wan'na Be Like You for The Jungle Book and composed the music for non-Disney productions like 1968's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang .
They continued to collaborate with Disney over the years, with Richard Sherman writing new lyrics for the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book in 2016 and composing songs for Christopher Robin in 2018.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has expressed his gratitude for the wonderful works that author Richard Sherman left for the world . Actor Tom Hanks once praised Richard Sherman as an endless source of stories and anecdotes.
