This is the first time in Vietnam that an AI competency framework has been systematically designed for preschool students, with the goal of equipping them with the necessary thinking, skills and attitudes to be proactive and responsible in the era of artificial intelligence.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung - Director of Program andEducation Quality Assurance of Vinschool Education System and Professor Wray Buntine - Director of Computer Science Program of VinUni University at the Announcement Ceremony of the Artificial Intelligence Program.
Vinschool's AI program is a long-term educational strategy, aiming to integrate AI as an essential learning capacity of the 21st century, realized through the synchronous implementation of three components: an AI competency-integrated curriculum, a set of AI competency standards, and a set of AI competency assessment tools for both teachers and students.
The AI program at Vinschool is professionally sponsored by the Institute of Engineering and Computer Science - VinUni University, ensuring high academic and practical value.
Developed with the professional support of the Institute of Computer Science and Engineering - VinUni University, the AI competency framework has a holistic integration model. AI is integrated into current subjects - especially in Information Technology and Computer Science, and becomes part of the output standards of other subjects. This helps students develop AI competencies naturally, linked to daily learning experiences.
The program content revolves around three main competency circuits:
- Understand how AI works, helping students grasp the basic principles of AI systems, from data to algorithms, while forming computational thinking skills such as pattern recognition, problem decomposition and algorithm design.
- Identify types of AI, provide hands-on experience with diverse AI tools and platforms, thereby helping students evaluate the role of AI in life and in future career fields.
- Using AI responsibly, to raise awareness of digital ethics, warn of risks such as algorithmic bias, misinformation, and social impacts of technology, thereby helping students use AI in a sober, humane, and responsible manner.
Model of 3 main competency circuits and 4 main skill circuits of AI competency framework at Vinschool.
The four core types of thinking that Vinschool focuses on developing include: computational thinking, systems thinking, design thinking, and critical & creative thinking. The competency framework is designed in layers for each grade level, ensuring suitability with the psychological and cognitive development characteristics of students.
According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Vinschool's AI program will help students develop high-level thinking, lifelong learning and become global citizens.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Director of Program and Education Quality Assurance at Vinschool affirmed: "We not only teach students to use technology, but more importantly, help them develop high-level thinking, learn how to learn for life and be ready to master the future. The AI program is part of the strategy to train global citizens - people with outstanding qualities, intelligence and adaptability."
Dr. Ton Quang Cuong commented that Vinschool's pioneering in building AI competency standards is a strategic step, demonstrating the vision of digital education.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Ton Quang Cuong, Head of the Faculty of Educational Technology, University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi , Vinschool's AI program is a pioneering step.
Vinschool's initiative to develop a set of AI standards and competencies is an impressive and pioneering step in general education today. The development of an integrated cross-subject AI competency framework from kindergarten to grade 12 demonstrates a strategic vision, promoting the development of computational thinking, critical thinking, digital ethics and creativity in the context of digital education by integrating AI into each student's learning experience. At the same time, it reflects the technology, education and humanity in the next phase of the education sector.
The AI education program at Vinschool is not only an academic achievement, but also a strategic foundation to help students form essential competencies of global citizens: understanding technology, mastering technology, and creating the future with technology.
