Over 300 people poisoned by bread in Vung Tau, shop owner fined 125 million VND

Mr. Dang Minh Thong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, has just signed a decision to administratively fine Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao (42 years old, residing in Thang Nhi ward, Vung Tau city) a total of 125 million VND.

Ms. Thao is the owner of Co Ba Ben Dinh bread and sticky rice shop, located at 6 Nguyen An Ninh, Ward 7, Vung Tau City - where the food poisoning incident occurred, causing more than 300 people to be rushed to the emergency room and hospitalized on November 27 and 28.

According to the penalty decision, there are 4 administrative violations including: food production process not following the one-way principle from input materials to final products; using people to directly prepare food without using gloves when in direct contact with cooked food and instant food.

Providing food services without a certificate of food safety eligibility and selling food that causes food poisoning affecting the health of 5 or more people but not to the extent of criminal prosecution.

In addition, the owner of this bakery also has many aggravating circumstances such as: large-scale violations, administrative violations against many people, children, the elderly, the disabled, and pregnant women.

For the above violations, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao was fined a total of 125 million VND.

In addition to the fine, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province forced the owner of the Co Ba Ben Dinh bread and sticky rice shop to bear all costs for handling food poisoning, examining and treating food poisoning victims.

According to the penalty decision, the food poisoning incident occurred with a total of 342 cases (including children, the elderly, and pregnant women), of which 124 were hospitalized and receiving inpatient treatment (including 6 severe cases with hypotension/shock), and 217 were treated and discharged.
