Ha Long Bay boat capsize: Relatives of victims still hoping for a miracle

On the afternoon of July 21, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province informed that authorities had just found a body suspected to be that of a tourist in a shipwreck in Ha Long Bay.

After more than 2 days of concentrating forces and means to search and rescue on a large scale in Ha Long Bay, before storm Wipha made landfall, on the morning of July 21, functional forces of Quang Ninh province found the body of a child drifting near Titop Island, Ha Long Bay.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, by the end of July 20, the authorities had found 35 bodies. Four tourists are still missing, including a boy named NDKP (born in 2019, in Ha Lam ward, Quang Ninh province).

Quang Ninh authorities mobilized more vehicles and expanded the search for the remaining missing victims.

Previously, after the tragedy of the sinking of the Green Bay 58 ship, at the old Bai Chay ferry terminal, relatives of the victims gathered in large numbers, waiting for information about their children. Everyone was waiting for a miracle to bring their children back alive, even though the hope was very slim. If they were not alive, they had to find their bodies to bury them…

On the night of July 20, at a corner of the embankment near the old Bai Chay ferry, many Quang Ninh residents and tourists came to place incense and flowers in memory of the victims. Besides the fresh flowers, there was also a teddy bear, a bag of chips and a box of milk... These were familiar items that the relatives of the boy NDKP brought here in the hope that its owner would soon return.

Throughout the night, many of the child’s relatives stood in the rain, waiting for their child to return. They could not take their eyes off the sea and occasionally someone could not hold back their pain and cried out baby P’s name.

P.'s relatives have been standing still for the past two days, waiting for him to return.

Many people came to lay flowers and pray for the return of the missing tourists.

According to P.'s relatives, during the fateful trip, P.'s mother died, along with two other relatives. P.'s father and many other family members have been awake for two days and nights, waiting for news of their son.

Also staying up all night last night were many relatives of Ms. HTQ (born in 1975) who is still missing. No one wanted to leave even a single step despite the cold and rainy night. Everyone was silently weeping, looking out to the distant sea in despair…
