On the morning of July 21, Mr. Tran Kiem Hao, Director of the Hue City Department of Health, said that the patients hospitalized for emergency treatment due to food poisoning after eating at a funeral in Phong Dinh Ward ( Hue City) are basically in stable health.
Mr. Hao said that after recording the incident, the department sent food safety officers to the hospital to work with the victims of the poisoning.
According to initial information, the above cases had a death anniversary party at a family in Trung Co Me residential group, Phong Dinh ward, Hue city on July 19.
The party is served by a local restaurant (with a Food Safety and Hygiene certificate) with dishes including: seafood salad, roast chicken, sticky rice, shredded goat meat, steamed squid, grouper hotpot, and yogurt.
By dawn the next day, many people attending the funeral began to show signs of food poisoning (acute gastritis), including one case of severe poisoning, requiring intensive care at Hue Central Hospital, branch 2.
By the morning of July 21, Hue Central Hospital, branch 2, had recorded 21 cases of hospitalization due to attending the above-mentioned death anniversary.
According to Mr. Hao, the department has taken stool samples from the patients and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for testing to find the cause of food poisoning. At the same time, the restaurant that cooked the funeral has been asked to temporarily suspend operations pending the conclusion of the incident.
"Currently, the health of the patients in the food poisoning case is basically stable, many patients can be treated at home," said Mr. Hao.
