US police said that a shooting on May 6 at a shopping mall in Allen, Texas, killed 9 people and injured at least 7 others.
According to Reuters news agency, speaking at a press conference, Allen City Police Department Director Brian Harvey said the perpetrator was killed by police after he opened fire outside the Allen Premium Outlets shopping center.
According to Medical City Healthcare, which operates 16 hospitals in Allen, medical facilities are treating eight injured victims ranging in age from 5 to 61.
Television footage showed police officers arriving at the Allen Premium Outlets shopping mall as hundreds of people quietly left the scene.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott condemned the shooting as a "tragedy" and said the state stood ready to provide any assistance to the Allen city government.
Mass shootings have been a constant occurrence in the United States in recent years. According to the Gun Violence Archive, the country has seen nearly 200 mass shootings since the beginning of 2023, the highest number compared to the same period in 2016.
