UK supports Vietnam in overcoming storm and flood consequences

(Chinhphu.vn) – British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy announced that the UK has promptly provided Vietnam with 0.5 million pounds to help overcome the consequences of the recent storm and flood.

On the afternoon of October 20, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy to discuss directions for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

This is the second time Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has had a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy in the past month. The most recent time was at the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership, one of the most important partners in the European region.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that the two sides would continue to strengthen substantive cooperation in various fields, especially trade and investment, education , science and technology and digital transformation, defense and security, environment and climate change, energy, culture and tourism, and people-to-people exchange.

On the UK side, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy affirmed that the UK always highly values ​​the friendly relationship with Vietnam, and expressed his belief that, with close coordination between the two governments, the Vietnam-UK relationship will continue to expand, develop sustainably and more effectively; and expressed his agreement on promoting delegation exchanges and high-level contacts in the coming time.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy sent his condolences on the damage caused by recent storms in Vietnam and announced that the UK had promptly provided Vietnam with 0.5 million pounds to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.

The two sides affirmed to continue reviewing, promoting negotiations and signing new documents to create a favorable legal framework for bilateral cooperation; identifying the increased signing of substantive trade contracts that are beneficial to both sides as the basis for deepening the relationship, bringing benefits to the people and the two countries.

The two Deputy Prime Ministers affirmed their determination to bring the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership to a new stage of extensive development, meeting the interests and expectations of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and the world./.
