Cybersecurity in the Digital Age - Final Article

In the context of strong digital transformation taking place globally, cybersecurity has become a strategic pillar, determining the sustainable development of businesses, organizations and society. Cyber threats are increasingly sophisticated and complex, from data theft, online fraud, ransomware attacks (malware that can limit access to the victim's computer system, then demand a ransom to restore access) to exploiting AI for the purpose of system intrusion.

Final article: Strategic weapons of digital businesses

In 2024 alone, more than 659,000 cybersecurity incidents were recorded, affecting nearly half of public and private organizations (according to OpenGov Asia), while 46% of Vietnamese businesses experienced at least one cyber attack in the same year (According to non-profit organization FACTS Asia).

Faced with this reality, the question is no longer “Is it necessary to invest in cybersecurity?”, but “What strategies and technologies are suitable to protect data, organizations and customer trust in the AI era?”

Mr. Vu Minh Quang, Consulting Director of Enterprise Division ofFPT Information System Joint Stock Company (FPT IS) emphasized: “Cyber security is not only a shield to protect data, but also a foundation to build trust and promote digital economic development. That is also the mission that FPT Joint Stock Company and global technology partners such as the multinational computer technology group (IBM) always pursue: creating a safe - reliable - sustainable digital platform for businesses and society.

FPT and IBM will be leading partners to help businesses solve cybersecurity problems, turn challenges into opportunities, and make cybersecurity a new competitive advantage in the AI era."

In the AI era, businesses face a “double border” – having to defend against external threats while also effectively exploiting internal AI. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, global cybersecurity consultant, FPT IS, commented: “AI brings great opportunities and opens a new front for cybercrime. Hackers can create fake emails, websites, video calls or voices that look real, targeting the right targets to defraud; AI is also used to generate automated malware at high speed, making it difficult for traditional solutions to keep up.

At the same time, internal risks are equally serious: the risk of data leakage, misuse of AI models, violations of industry regulations, or over-reliance on AI that creates operational risks. Therefore, business leaders cannot only care about short-term profits or efficiency, but need to put cybersecurity and legal compliance in a strategic position.”

To solve this problem, FPT introduced the AI-Ready SOC (Security Operations Center) model - a 24/7 network security monitoring and incident response service, applying machine learning to detect abnormal behavior, analyze big data and compare with global network security intelligence, thereby preventing early attacks using AI. Combined with GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) services, FPT provides consulting, ISO 27001 implementation and PCI DSS assessment and certification, helping businesses standardize their risk management systems and comply with international standards.

According to Mr. Binh, SOC and GRC are two important pillars in a unified security strategy, but they are not enough. Enterprises also need a comprehensive security service ecosystem – from the data layer, application, network to endpoint – following the Zero Trust model: never trust by default and always verify. This ecosystem helps organizations both defend effectively and be ready to exploit AI safely to create competitive advantages in the digital age.

From the perspective of data security, Mr. Nguyen Manh Linh, IBM Vietnam data security solution consultant, affirmed that data is the core asset but also the most vulnerable. When businesses operate in a hybrid cloud environment (a cloud computing model that combines the business's private infrastructure and public cloud services, allowing for flexible data storage and processing), data is distributed everywhere in many formats, the security challenge is even greater. IBM deploys the Guardium Data Protection platform, classifies data, provides a complete picture, detects weaknesses, ranks risks and continuously monitors. This solution allows the application of protective measures such as temporary isolation, hiding sensitive data, minimizing the risk of leakage.

Mr. Linh further emphasized: “76% of AI applications are currently unsecured, while 51% of IT leaders are concerned about new forms of attack from AI. IBM's solution is multi-layered security, from data, AI models to the entire usage process.” IBM also pioneered research on Quantum Computing technology (quantum computing - technology that uses qubits and quantum mechanical principles to process information, capable of solving complex problems superior to traditional computers) and developed new encryption methods to protect data against future challenges.

In addition to data security, IBM also focuses on protecting the system against ransomware. Mr. Tran Quang Huy - IBM Vietnam storage solution consultant introduced the Cyber Vault & FlashSystem solution set, designed as a "safety net" to help businesses fight against new generation ransomware. This solution integrates the ability to detect early, isolate data and recover quickly, ensuring continuous operation even when the business is attacked. Applying AI in the process helps to significantly shorten the detection and response time, limit damage and ensure the sustainability of the information technology system.

“About 10 years ago, cyber insurance was almost a theoretical concept,” said Andrew Mahony, Senior Director of Aon, a global professional services firm providing risk, retirement and health solutions. “However, the field has grown significantly since then, especially in the context of increasingly sophisticated threats. Businesses need to demonstrate their cyber defense capabilities to effectively access the insurance market, thereby enhancing their reputation and getting better contract terms.”

Mr. Dang Tung Son - Deputy General Director and Marketing Director at CMC Telecom, also Vice President & Strategy Director at CMC Corporation, shared, from awareness to action, from internal protection to providing services to customers. In the AI era, information security is a vital factor for every business. Instead of the traditional model of "high walls and deep moats", CMC Telecom pioneered an active defense approach, based on behavioral analysis and data correlation, helping to warn early and detect targeted attacks, shortening the detection time from 10-15 minutes to just a few seconds. "We are committed to accompanying businesses in digital transformation and AI safely and effectively" - Mr. Son said.

Looking at the big picture, the statements and solutions from FPT, IBM, Aon and CMC Telecom all affirm a unified message: cybersecurity is not only a shield to protect data but also a pillar to ensure sustainable development in the AI era.

Unified security strategy, from SOC (Security Operations Center - where monitoring, detecting and responding to cybersecurity incidents) and GRC (Governance - Risk & Compliance - a management framework that helps businesses ensure regulatory compliance, minimize risks and effectively manage security policies) to the Zero Trust ecosystem (a "No Trust by Default" model - a security approach based on the principle of not automatically trusting anyone, always authenticating and controlling access to all transactions in the system), combining insurance and proactive defense solutions, creating a safe, reliable and sustainable digital platform for Vietnamese businesses, helping organizations proactively respond to cyber threats, while exploiting AI effectively and safely.

In the context of a rapidly digitizing world, cybersecurity has become a matter of survival. Investing in the right strategy and technology not only protects data, but also builds customer trust, ensures continuous operations and enhances competitive advantage. The collaboration between technology corporations, insurance services and cybersecurity solution providers such as FPT, IBM, Aon and CMC demonstrates the right direction, turning challenges into opportunities, and making cybersecurity a foundation for sustainable development in the digital age.
