World Cup billiards: 3 excellent Vietnamese players continue with top spot in the group

Vietnam's squad had a quite successful competition day, when 3/4 players competing in the second qualifying round won the right to participate in the third qualifying round - Veghel 2024 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup.

From the afternoon of October 21 to the early morning of October 22, the Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards team had 4 players competing in the second qualifying round - World Cup Veghel 2024 taking place in the Netherlands, including: Nguyen Hoan Tat, Thon Viet Hoang Minh, Le Thanh Tien and Nguyen Chi Long. Among them, Nguyen Hoan Tat, Nguyen Chi Long and Le Thanh Tien convincingly won tickets to the next round.

In the second qualifying round, 48 players are divided into 16 groups (3 players each), playing a round-robin to calculate ranking points. Therefore, only the players who finish first in each group can participate in the third qualifying round of the Veghel World Cup 2024.

Nguyen Chi Long easily won a ticket to the third qualifying round.

Nguyen Hoan Tat, Nguyen Chi Long and Le Thanh Tien all topped their groups with 2 wins in a row. Hoan Tat (Group A) was the one who "opened" the victory for the Vietnamese team, when he defeated Aygun Cin (Germany) with a score of 30-18, after 22 rounds. Then, he continued to beat Brouwers (Netherlands) with a score difference of 30-10, after 21 rounds.

Nguyen Chi Long (group E) was placed in an "easy" group and did not have much difficulty winning both matches, both by a large margin. Chi Long defeated German player Wittkopf 30-5 (after 17 rounds), before defeating Dutch player Jetten 30-8 (after 16 rounds).

Le Thanh Tien had a good scoring performance in the second qualifying round.

Meanwhile, Le Thanh Tien showed impressive performance in the 2 matches in Group P. In the opening match, Thanh Tien achieved a high scoring efficiency, scoring an average of 3 points per turn. He won 30-12 against Crespo (Spain) after 10 turns. Thanh Tien continued to win against Van Erp (Netherlands) 30-22 after 17 turns.

Thon Viet Hoang Minh is the only Vietnamese player who could not pass the second qualifying round, with only 1 loss and 1 draw.

Thus, Nguyen Hoan Tat, Nguyen Chi Long and Le Thanh Tien will continue to compete in the third qualifying round of the Veghel 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup from the afternoon of October 22. In addition, Vietnam also has another representative, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu, who was also scheduled to compete in the third qualifying round from the beginning.
