On July 22, Quang Bi commune organized 3 working groups to inspect the field of natural disaster prevention and control works in the area, directing relevant units to be ready to deploy response plans for storm No. 3, heavy rain, and floods on the Bui River according to the motto "4 on-site".
The working group led by Chairman of Quang Bi Commune People's Committee Bui Manh Thang inspected key areas of dikes, irrigation, and natural disasters. On the left dike of Bui, section 5, the group recorded many subsidence, cracks, and degradation on the dike surface.
Dong Dau village has low-lying terrain, at risk of flooding, isolating hundreds of households when the water level of the Bui River rises. The working group also inspected pumping stations such as Yen Duyet and An Vong, which are responsible for draining water for the entire Quang Bi area and part of neighboring communes. However, some drainage canals such as Ong Canh canal passing through Luong Xa are often clogged because they flow through residential areas, and the canal is narrow, greatly affecting the effectiveness of drainage during storms.
In the above areas, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Bi commune requested specialized agencies to coordinate with villages to strengthen on-call work, promptly detect and be ready to deploy dike protection plans, evacuate people, clear water flow and drain water...
Speaking to reporters of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Bi Commune, Bui Manh Thang, said that the commune has established a Civil Defense Command Committee, assigning specific tasks and areas to each member. The on-site shock force has been strengthened, fully prepared with supplies including 500m3 of earth and rock, 2,000 sacks. Plans for evacuating people, protecting constructions, and restoring production have also been reviewed and completed...
Previously, Quang Bi commune was affected by a storm that blew off roofs of houses, broke many trees and telecommunication poles, and caused damage to livestock. The recovery work was carried out overnight, helping to strengthen the proactive and prepared spirit of the government and the people.
Currently, pumping stations are operating flexibly to control water levels in the canals, while shock troops are on duty regularly at flood-prone areas. Propaganda and guidance for people to protect their property and proactively respond to heavy rains and floods are also being strengthened.
“We clearly understand that if we are not proactive early, we will be easily caught off guard when heavy rains come. Therefore, all key points have specific contingency plans. The goal is to not be surprised in any situation,” affirmed Bui Manh Thang, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Bi Commune.
