Clearly define the roadmap for digital journalism transformation

The plan sets out annual growth targets for the 2023 - 2025 period and the 2026 - 2030 period. Accordingly, some of the targets include: by 2025, 70% of press agencies nationwide will post content on digital platforms (prioritizing domestic platforms); 50% of press agencies will use centralized data analysis and processing platforms, applying artificial intelligence to optimize operations; 80% of press agencies will operate a converged newsroom model in line with the development of advanced science and technology in the world, producing content according to digital journalism trends; 100% of leaders, officers, reporters, and editors of press agencies will be trained and fostered in knowledge and skills in digital journalism... At the same time, complete the development of national digital platforms for journalism. Some targets are raised from 90 - 100% by 2030.

Specific tasks and solutions to implement the strategy of digitalization of journalism are also proposed such as: perfecting the legal environment, developing and improving the quality of human resources, developing digital platforms and digital journalism products, raising awareness, strengthening international cooperation, measuring, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the strategy.

Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has also issued a set of indicators to evaluate and measure the maturity level of press digitalization with 42 specific criteria. Accordingly, the 5 pillars of press digitalization include: (1) Strategy, (2) Digital infrastructure, digital platform and information security, (3) Organizational and professional uniformity, (4) Readers, audiences, listeners, (5) Level of digital technology application.

Speaking at a working session with the Vietnam Journalists Association on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said: “The Ministry of Information and Communications will take the lead in building a number of shared technology platforms for press agencies, especially small press agencies that are facing difficulties and limitations in applying technology. Each press agency must be a digital platform for people to participate in updating information.”
