Ben Tre is a province located in the lower reaches of the Tien River, closely associated with the history of the formation and development of the Southern region. Going back in time, the province's geographical location is closely associated with Vinh Long, once one of the six provinces of the South under the Nguyen Dynasty. On January 1, 1900, it officially became a provincial-level administrative unit with the name Ben Tre. After 125 years of formation and development, Ben Tre province has joined the flow of history and left behind era-specific marks, most notably the Dong Khoi movement in 1960. On November 27, 2024, the Prime Minister issued a Decision recognizing Ben Tre Province's Traditional Day on January 17. On June 12, 2025, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam passed Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units. Accordingly, Ben Tre province merged with Tra Vinh and Vinh Long provinces to form the new Vinh Long province. From July 1, 2025, the commune level and the (new) Vinh Long province will officially operate.
In order to promptly collect and preserve artifacts related to the stages of administrative boundary division, serving the research, preservation, display andeducation of historical and cultural traditions for future generations, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism directed the Ben Tre Museum and Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library to carry out the collection "Stamps of administrative units; departments, branches, organizations and armed forces in Ben Tre province" divided into 2 parts. Part 1: Stamps of provincial-level agencies and units including stamps of the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; departments, branches, organizations and armed forces (including stamps of the Party Committee/Cell Party Committee and the government). Part 2: Stamps of district- and commune-level agencies and units including stamps of the District/City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of districts and cities; 148 communes, wards and towns in the province.
Through the collection, we aim to systematize and summarize the administrative management work in the period before the merger and consolidation of administrative units. At the same time, we contribute to providing additional information for research in the fields of administrative studies, documents, archival studies, etc. The collection will be displayed in person and online to serve the public at the provincial museum and library in the near future.
