(BLC) - After nearly 50 years of construction, development and growth, generations of officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3 have always been united, overcoming all difficulties and hardships, focusing on building the region to become increasingly strong, becoming one of the main combat units with strong offensive power of the Vietnam People's Navy, achieving many outstanding achievements and feats.
Naval Region 3 was established on October 26, 1975, stationed mainly in Da Nang city and the central provinces from Quang Binh to Binh Dinh. Naval Region 3 has the task of firmly managing and protecting sovereignty , maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the central sea area and Hoang Sa archipelago with a coastline of about 740km and a sea area of about 293 thousand square kilometers.
On the KN390 ship traveling from Da Nang Port to visit and wish a happy new year to officers, soldiers and people of Con Co Island (Quang Tri), Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai) under the management of Naval Region 3 on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, our reporters had the opportunity to meet, talk and record a short interview with Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien - Political Commissar of Naval Region 3 Command about the achievements of the region in the past nearly 50 years since its establishment.

Reporter : Dear Rear Admiral, Naval Region 3 is assigned to manage and protect the sea area along the length of 7 coastal provinces and cities in the Central region, including many island areas and outpost archipelagos, holding important strategic positions. With such characteristics, how has the Party Committee and Command of the Region determined the leadership policies and measures to successfully complete the assigned tasks?
Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien : We have determined that the tasks managed by the region are very heavy, the situation in the sea area has many complicated developments. Especially in the recent past, the Party Committee and the Command of the Region have focused on leadership and direction through the Resolution on leadership in implementing the central political tasks of the units. Every year, on the basis of that resolution, we deploy close and correct measures to successfully organize the implementation of the policies and resolutions that have been set out. Second, we regularly disseminate to officers and soldiers a clear understanding of the assigned tasks, the situation in the sea area under management, and the advantages and difficulties. From there, officers and soldiers in the entire region determine their spirit, responsibility, and determination to overcome all difficulties to successfully complete the assigned tasks. Third, closely and synchronously deploy combat plans, ensuring that officers and soldiers are proficient in their profession, good at their expertise, have a firm grasp of plans, and gradually build a Navy force in the direction of "revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern". We focus on training soldiers closely in real combat situations so that soldiers can put themselves into tasks and situations so as not to be passive and surprised. Along with that, build clean and strong organizations. First of all, focus on building clean and strong Party organizations, Party committees, and commanders at all levels to be exemplary; exemplary cadres and Party members who fulfill their roles and responsibilities as Party members and assigned duties and tasks. Fourth, organize training for soldiers through regular activities of the unit, focusing on physical training for soldiers to withstand complex stormy conditions and long-term operations at sea.

Reporter: So how is physical training for soldiers, especially organizing and maintaining physical activities and sports for ships operating for long periods at sea and radar stations carried out, Rear Admiral?
Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien : First of all, we thoroughly educate all officers and soldiers to be aware of exercising and training their own physical strength. Second, regularly organize physical training and sports activities in units at prescribed times to improve soldiers' physical strength. Next, train soldiers according to physical requirements for naval forces such as: wave bridges, spinning wheels and physical activities related to training soldiers' health when operating at sea. Fourth, with the unit's existing budget and the above-mentioned sources, we organize the construction of gyms on ships so that officers and soldiers who operate for long periods at sea and do not have the conditions to exercise can organize physical training and sports on the ship. On the islands, we organize training for soldiers in physical training and sports exercises, deploy gyms and outdoor sports equipment to thereby train soldiers' physical strength. Most importantly, training makes soldiers aware of the need to improve their health to withstand storms and ensure operations in complex stormy conditions.
Reporter: Dear Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien, with the task of managing and protecting the sea areas of 7 central provinces, what have the officers and soldiers of Naval Region 3 done to be worthy of the trust of the Party Committee, government and people in the provinces, and to excellently complete the tasks assigned by the Party and State?
Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien: Our army comes from the people and fights for the people. The army and the people are like fish and water. This is a blood relationship that has existed since our army was founded until now. This relationship is constantly strengthened and developed to become a beautiful cultural feature of the Vietnam People's Army. In addition to performing well the task of combat readiness, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands, creating a peaceful and stable environment for the country as well as localities in the stationed area to confidently develop the socio-economy and fulfill the targets set by the locality. We regularly coordinate with localities to implement and sign agreements with localities to propagate about the sea and islands, sign agreements on activities in performing the task of protecting national defense and security, and political security in localities. Implement the program of the Vietnamese navy as a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea; the navy sponsors the children of fishermen. In addition, units in the whole region have implemented programs and contents such as programs to sign activities, organize activities to coordinate and help each other in difficult times. Currently, in the whole region, we have more than 47 focal points signing activities with organizations, schools and local agencies. Every year, we coordinate and learn from experience to expand and further improve the effectiveness of coordination work to ensure security and national defense in general of localities, ensuring that the army can work with peace of mind and complete assigned tasks.

Reporter: From those solutions, what outstanding results has Region 3 achieved and what measures will Region 3 continue to implement in the coming time to successfully complete the assigned tasks, sir?
Rear Admiral Nguyen Dang Tien : In the past time, we have successfully completed the central political tasks of the region. Second, we have successfully completed the combat training tasks, improving the combat readiness of officers and soldiers. Third, we have strictly maintained discipline, managed discipline, and built up the soldiers' awareness of self-consciously complying with the military's orders, regulations, and discipline, discipline in people's relations, and discipline in work. Fourth, we have ensured the safety of weapons and equipment, human safety, and traffic safety. In addition, we have effectively implemented search and rescue, helping people, and considering search and rescue as a command and combat task in peacetime. We have built strong organizations: party organizations, command organizations, and mass organizations in the unit. In 2023, the region successfully completed its tasks and was awarded the leading flag by the Ministry of National Defense in the emulation movement for organizing the Party to successfully complete its tasks, a comprehensively strong unit, and a typical exemplary model.
Currently, in the face of the complicated developments in the world and the region, especially the situation in the sea areas managed by the region, the region always identifies the central task as firmly managing and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national construction and development. We continue to build a stronghold of "activeness, initiative, solidarity, coordination, mastery of the sea, determination to fight, determination to win"; thoroughly educate officers and soldiers to grasp the situation and tasks, improve the quality and ability of training and combat readiness; ensure other aspects of activities. From there, the forces in the entire region are ready to carry out tasks, respond to situations that may occur at sea, always receive and excellently complete the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands in the coming time.
