This was shared by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc at the "Green Transformation and Recycling Day 2025" Forum, which took place on July 31 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event attracted nearly 500 delegates from central ministries, branches, local leaders, businesses, international organizations, universities and the creative startup community for the environment.
Ho Chi Minh City is ready to take the lead in sustainable production standards in the new era.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed: This is an important activity in the process of making Ho Chi Minh City one of the 100 most livable cities in the world . Green transformation is no longer an option, but an inevitable trend of the times.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Ho Chi Minh City is facing a "new context", in which the concept of "development" is being redefined by four core factors: The increasingly clear impact of climate change; global supply chains are reshaped according to environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards; increasingly fierce geopolitical and economic competition; and the expansion of urban space, requiring increasingly high regional connectivity capacity.
In this context, green transformation is no longer simply about protecting the environment but has become a strategy to ensure economic security, enhance competitiveness, attract investment and maintain Ho Chi Minh City's leading position in the national economy .
The City leader emphasized that green transformation needs to be approached from a new mindset of action. It cannot rely on individual projects alone, but must be a sustainable ecosystem, built by comprehensive and cross-sectoral solutions.
Regarding infrastructure, the City aims to build a green public transport system, with metro line 1 acting as the backbone, connecting environmentally friendly transport modes such as electric buses, waterways and zero-emission personal vehicles.
Regarding resources, the head of the Ho Chi Minh City government said that it is necessary to change the mindset from "processing" to "recreating value". Waste is not just something that needs to be discarded but can become a resource if it is recycled, reused and classified at the source.
In the industrial sector, Ho Chi Minh City will prioritize attracting high-quality FDI capital, advanced technology and environmental friendliness, gradually transforming industrial parks and export processing zones into circular, ecological and digital economic models. This is a strong message to global investors, Ho Chi Minh City is ready to take the lead in sustainable production standards in the new era.
To realize the green transformation strategy, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized 4 key orientations: Institutions must be one step ahead, with flexible and breakthrough policies to unleash social resources; science and technology are the driving force, with international standard research centers and an innovative ecosystem; businesses are the pioneering force, needing to see green standards as opportunities, not barriers; people are the foundation, because green transformation is only sustainable when associated with the community and environmentally friendly consumption lifestyles.

Green Transformation: Enterprises at the Heart of the Innovation Ecosystem
From the perspective of State management, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, emphasized: We all clearly realize that green transformation is not only a trend of the times, but also a vital requirement to enhance national competitiveness, meet international standards, ensure energy security and protect the living environment for future generations. In that journey, private enterprises are the pioneering force and the central pillar of innovation, making important contributions to the prosperous and powerful development of the country.
For businesses to go fast, go far and go sustainably in the new era, the Party and State's mechanisms and policies on science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation are indispensable support foundations.
This is deeply reflected in two major breakthrough resolutions recently issued by the Politburo, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on private economic development. "These two resolutions are considered strategic breakthroughs, the main driving force of economic growth and enhancing national competitiveness," Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized.
