From early morning on January 10, many people flocked to stores in Ho Chi Minh City to buy roast pigs and roast ducks to worship the God of Wealth.

According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper at 8:00 a.m. on February 19, many streets specializing in selling roasted pork and roasted duck such as Phan Van Tri, Bui Huu Nghia (District 5), Ta Uyen (District 11), Ma Lo Street (Binh Tan District)... were crowded with customers waiting to buy offerings to the God of Wealth. Many people came to buy from 5-6 a.m. but still had to wait.

Mr. Vuong Thanh Phuc (living in District 5), who was standing in line to buy roast pork, said that because he did not order in advance, the store asked him to wait in line. "I only planned to buy half a kilo of roast pork and 200,000 VND of char siu to worship on the day of the God of Wealth, so I thought that if I came early, I would be able to buy it right away. Unexpectedly, people came before me, I have been waiting for nearly 20 minutes."

Mr. Nguyen Thoai, manager of a roast pork shop near the intersection of Phan Van Tri and Bui Huu Nghia, said the number of customers this year is similar to previous years. Because it is too crowded, the shop does not accept bank transfers. Regarding prices, roast pork, bread, and offerings to the God of Wealth have not increased compared to last year.

"The input meat price is stable, so the price of roast pork sold by the store is also relatively similar to previous years, ranging from 350,000 - 400,000 VND/kg depending on the type. On the day of the God of Fortune, the most customers buy is roast pork belly. Since yesterday afternoon, the whole store has not had time to sleep," said Mr. Thoai.

Customers jostle to buy

According to some other roast meat shops, because input prices have not increased and the economy is in difficulty, the shops have not increased prices to keep customers.

Recorded at roast pork shops on the morning of February 19, pork belly, char siu, and roast pork ribs ranged in price from 350,000 - 400,000 VND/kg, a slight increase compared to normal days of only 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. Whole roast pork priced from 1.3 million - 5 million VND was also ordered by many customers.

In addition to roast meat, other products such as dumplings, sticky rice, etc. are also bought a lot by customers.
