Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Yen Bai: Thanks to the people's consensus

In recent years, Yen Bai province has become a bright spot in the campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing to improving the lives of thousands of poor and near-poor households and meritorious people, gradually realizing the goal of "leaving no one behind".

Mu Cang Chai district ( Yen Bai province) supports the construction of houses for the poor, contributing to the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.

Yen Bai province aims to eliminate 2,208 temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025, including 1,815 newly built houses and 393 repaired houses for people with meritorious services, relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households. The support level is 60 million VND/newly built house and 30 million VND/repaired house, with a total estimated cost of more than 120 billion VND. As of June 2, all 2,208 houses have started construction (100% of the plan), of which 2,157 houses have been completed (97.7%). There are currently 51 houses under construction, expected to be completed before June 15. To date, 5/9 districts, towns and cities have completed the plan, including: Yen Bai city, Tram Tau, Nghia Lo town, Mu Cang Chai and Tran Yen. The total allocated budget is over 91.8 billion VND, equivalent to 76%.

Through assessment, local Party committees and authorities in Yen Bai province have paid attention to thoroughly grasping, organizing propaganda, mobilizing support to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for policy households and poor households in the area, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction, improving the quality of life, ensuring social security in the area. Accordingly, sectors and localities have also thoroughly grasped and well implemented the motto "The Party leads, the State manages, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations support, the people are the masters", considering this one of the important tasks; determined and making efforts to strive to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area before June 30.

The Fatherland Front at all levels of Yen Bai province has actively mobilized people to contribute working days and materials to support poor households in building and repairing houses. Mr. Ly Van Ngoc - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Van Yen district said that the militia and youth union members have participated in hundreds of working days, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual love. Along with that, many economic models such as planting forests, cinnamon, Bat Do bamboo shoots in Kien Thanh commune or growing tea in Viet Cuong, Hung Thinh, Bao Dap have created jobs and stable income, contributing to changing the face of rural mountainous areas.

To achieve this result, Yen Bai has mobilized the participation of the entire political system from the province to the grassroots. The Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses was established at all three levels, with clear operating regulations. Localities proactively determined the progress, assigned specific officials in charge, guided and urged the implementation in each village, hamlet and residential group. In particular, the Fatherland Front at all levels played a core role in mobilizing resources and supervising the implementation.

Ms. Nong Thi Kim Cuc - Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Yen Bai province said that eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is not only an immediate task but also a long-term responsibility of all levels and sectors. We are determined to complete the set goals, ensuring that all people have safe and stable housing. Therefore, we have closely coordinated with organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to mobilize resources. In just the past 2 years, many businesses and philanthropists have donated in kind worth over 50 billion VND. This is an important part of the total socialized resources that Yen Bai has mobilized to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the poor. This contribution not only demonstrates the spirit of mutual love but also contributes significantly to improving living conditions for people in mountainous and disadvantaged areas of the province.

“The highlight of the province’s approach is to arouse the sense of responsibility, closeness to the people, and service to the people at each level of local government. Districts, towns, and communes not only implement the plan according to instructions but also create creativity in organizing implementation, mobilizing the participation of the entire community and society. Accordingly, commune, village, and hamlet authorities directly survey each household, determine the level of housing degradation, and organize meetings with people to ensure transparency and democracy. In many difficult cases, local officials even contribute money, labor days, and work with people to build houses, transport materials to remote areas to help ethnic minorities stabilize their lives,” Ms. Kim Cuc shared.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Yen Bai province is a testament to the government’s determination and the people’s consensus in improving their lives and ensuring social security. With the results achieved, Yen Bai is gradually realizing the goal of “leaving no one behind”, contributing to building a fair, civilized and sustainably developed society.

According to the report of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee, as of June 2, the whole province had 2,208/2,208 houses that had started construction, reaching 100% of the plan. The number of completed houses was 2,157/2,208, reaching 97.7%. Currently, 5/9 districts, towns and cities have completed the plan to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses according to the Provincial Project, including: Yen Bai city, Tram Tau, Nghia Lo town, Mu Cang Chai and Tran Yen district. Currently, the whole province still has 51 houses under construction. To date, the budget allocated to localities is over 91.8 billion VND, reaching 76%. Yen Bai is determined and strives to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area before June 30.
