'Time travel' to the moment Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence: Touching history in a young person's way

(VTC News) - With the exhibition "Returning to the sacred moment", the historical memory of September 2 is recreated using virtual reality (VR) technology, "touching" young people in a creative way.

The exhibition Returning to the Sacred Moment is a special journey through time, where visitors have the opportunity to return to the sacred moment of the nation - the moment when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Touching history the young way

Dr. Le Quoc Vinh - Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Le Bros, member of the exhibition's Advisory Council - experienced the VR project recreating the moment of September 2, 1945 for the first time. He said: "This is the first time I have directly experienced it through VR glasses to feel it. Previously, just watching 2D images had a very different feeling. Today, I feel like I am actually standing in that space - even though I know it is a reenactment, a reconstruction - but I still feel like I am living in the historical day of September 2, 1945".

He acknowledged that young people are not as indifferent to history as many people think. “ They are no longer satisfied with just watching old documentaries, photos or documents, but want to experience it the way they experience life today. Therefore, the application of technology is inevitable – there is almost no other choice.”

According to Dr. Le Quoc Vinh, VR, AR or artificial intelligence not only make history less dry, but are also the "key" to help touch the hearts of young people. He believes the exhibition will create a strong influence thanks to the desire to "become a part of a historical moment" and the inherent attraction of modern technology.

“Why not bring technology to the streets, to public spaces? Let’s create conditions for young people to directly enter historical moments through vivid and emotional experiences,” he said.

Each frame is a message

Dr. Cao Minh Thang – Deputy Director in charge of the Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology – shared the passion behind the project. He said: “We consider the application of technology to convey historical values to the community an important mission.”

For him, VR is not just a projection tool, but a door that brings viewers “immersed in the context of the Independence Day. From there, it arouses national pride, pride in the glorious history of the country”.

To recreate a major event in a short period of time, the team mobilized a team of high-quality personnel, inviting many historical, cultural, and technological experts to participate.

We also invest heavily in equipment systems, including high-quality graphics processing computers and the best virtual reality glasses available today. All of this aims to convey and recreate history in the most realistic and vivid way to the public,” Dr. Thang shared.

Living History in the Digital Age

According to experts, to bring history closer to young people, we need to change the way it is told. It is not just static images or narration, but experiences that young people can “step into”, interact with, and feel with all their senses.

As Dr. Le Quoc Vinh said: "To spread history, let the youth directly enter that space". And Dr. Cao Minh Thang affirmed: " We hope that in the near future, the community will have an experience that is not only interesting, but also authentic and emotional about the sacred Independence Day of the nation".

The exhibition Returning to the Sacred Moment is therefore not only a technological product, but also a bridge - connecting the golden pages of the nation's history to the hearts of today's youth, in the language of their generation.

The exhibition "Returning to the sacred moment" is open to the public from 8am on August 19 to 21 at the National Broadcasting Center, 58 Quan Su, and from August 28 to September 5 at the Dong Hoi National Exhibition Center - Dong Anh, Hanoi .
