According to the Thai motorbike website Greatbiker, Yamaha is planning to launch a new version called PG-155 - an upgraded version of the current PG-1 off-road motorbike line currently sold in many markets including Vietnam.

The most notable change lies in the engine block: from the 113.7cc carburetor type, the PG-155 will be upgraded to a 155cc liquid-cooled engine, most likely similar to the YZF-R15 sportbike model, with VVA variable valve technology.

If the leaked information is correct, the new generation Yamaha PG-155 motorbike model can reach a capacity of about 19 horsepower and a maximum speed of over 120 km/h - a big step forward compared to the previous version.

The more powerful engine not only helps the car meet strict Japanese and European emission standards, but also expands its usability: it is convenient for city driving, yet powerful enough for light off-roading or long-distance touring.

Despite the engine upgrade, the Yamaha PG-155 is expected to retain the design that has created the unique personality of the PG-1 series. The vehicle has an adventure-retro style with a sturdy backbone frame, shock absorbers suitable for light terrain and high chassis - factors that make the PG-1 loved by the community of small off-road enthusiasts.

This configuration makes many people expect the PG-155 to become a true rival to the Honda CT125 Hunter Cub - a model with a classic and durability orientation, while the PG-155 promises to bring a more powerful driving experience with higher performance.

Although the information from Greatbiker has caused a lot of curiosity in the motorcycle community, it should be emphasized that Yamaha has not yet made any official confirmation about the development of the PG-155.

Industry experts also believe that if Yamaha wants to switch from a 113.7cc engine to a 155cc one, it will have to make many significant technical adjustments, including the transmission system, frame, cooling system and the overall structure of the vehicle.

“Cramming” a more powerful engine into the PG-1 body was not just a matter of cylinder capacity, but also required redesign to ensure stability, safety and optimize performance.

The PG-1 has only been introduced in some markets since 2023 and is still creating a certain attraction thanks to its unique appearance and stable performance in the light off-road segment. Therefore, Yamaha may not need to launch an upgraded version too soon when the current product is still "healthy".

There is no denying that the PG-155 (if realized) will be a breath of fresh air, appealing to a group of users looking for a compact yet powerful off-road vehicle. In the context of the increasing demand for combined street and light off-road travel, the appearance of a model like the PG-155 is what the market has been waiting for.
