Yamal causes outrage

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has dropped Lamine Yamal after discovering the player underwent a medical procedure without prior notice.

Yamal was forced to leave the squad to rest and recover from a groin injury that he had been suffering from for months. What angered the RFEF was that the player underwent an “invasive radiofrequency procedure” on the morning of the squad’s training session, without informing the national medical team.

"The RFEF's medical service wishes to express its surprise and displeasure at learning that player Lamine Yamal underwent an invasive procedure to treat pubic pain. The team's medical team was not informed in advance and only received a report recommending the player be out for 7-10 days," the RFEF statement read.

Previously, coach Luis de la Fuente confirmed that Yamal was in perfect physical condition. However, the chronic pubalgia that Yamal suffered from was very complicated and may never fully heal. A sports doctor once revealed: "This is a difficult injury to treat, causing pain and limiting the ability to move and shoot by up to 50%.

With the current situation, Yamal will likely have to rest for a long time to avoid a recurrence of the injury, while the RFEF – through this incident, wants to assert absolute control over all medical decisions related to the national team player.
