“When I joined the team, coach Kim Sang-sik told me, 'Welcome back.' I told him that I was ready and could play in my best condition. I was just waiting for the opportunity to play and contribute to the team,” striker Nguyen Xuan Son told the media before the Vietnam team's training session on the afternoon of November 11.
Xuan Son has completely recovered from the ligament injury he suffered in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final against Thailand earlier this year. After nearly a year, he was named by coach Kim Sang-sik in the 23-man squad for the match against Laos in the 5th match of Group F, the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, despite not having played an official match against Nam Dinh since the beginning of the season.
Sharing about his return to the national team, the Brazilian striker said: “Today is very special for me since my injury. I always feel proud and honored to wear the Vietnam national team shirt. I am very happy to return to the team, to see familiar faces from my teammates and the coaching staff. My family is also very proud that I have the opportunity to contribute to the national team again.”
The player born in 1997 continued: “It is difficult to describe the feelings when I come back here, meet my friends and teachers who have accompanied me on the previous journey. I would like to send my sincere thanks to the coaching staff, teammates and fans across Vietnam for always supporting me.”
In response to doubts about his physical condition after a long period of injury treatment, Xuan Son emphasized: “Currently, I have completely recovered, reached 100% physical condition and am ready to compete at the highest intensity. There is nothing to worry about, I will try my best every time I am given the opportunity.”
Xuan Son shared that recently, he has absorbed the entire training plan of Nam Dinh's coaching staff. Therefore, at any time, he is ready to play. "Of course, I always want to score, but the most important thing is that the whole team wins against Laos. I will fight with everything I have."
In Group F, Vietnam currently has 9 points, ranking second after Malaysia. The team will have 1 week to prepare before entering the official match with Laos on November 18.
