Yen Bai province currently has 247 OCOP products, of which 25 products have achieved 4 stars, 222 products have achieved 3 stars. The special feature of each product is that it is developed from specialties or key products in the locality. Therefore, mentioning each OCOP product is mentioning a specific place name, associated with the name of the commune, the name of the village or the name of an individual, of the cooperative. Up to now, when mentioning any place name in Yen Bai province, it will remind people of a typical product of that locality. According to Ms. Pham Thi Thu Ha, in charge of business of Gioi Phien Vermicelli Cooperative, Yen Bai city, said: With the craft village, it has existed for a long time, previously it was done by hand, but now it has switched to production according to OCOP standards, so the productivity is 3 times higher than before, the quality has also been improved, at the same time, the cooperative's vermicelli products are also present in many domestic markets.
The beauty of each OCOP product in the province is the diversity and richness imbued with regional culture. With the same product, each place and each locality has its own way of making and production methods, so it has its own unique flavor imbued with the culture of each ethnic group and each subject. Sharing about how to make OCOP products with regional characteristics, according to Ms. Dong Thi Hien, Director of Hien Vinh Tay Bac Agricultural Cooperative, in Yen Binh town, Yen Binh district, said: The Cooperative has exploited Thac Ba lake fish products, and at the same time processed them into dried fish, with typical spices to create canned dried fish that meets the criteria of an OCOP product.
To upgrade agricultural products from ordinary products to branded, trademarked and well-known products, in the process of building new rural areas, localities have made the most of resources and project programs to develop specialty products into OCOP products. Through support programs such as encouraging the establishment of cooperatives and cooperatives; providing preferential loans, opening science and technology transfer classes, and linking programs between new rural communes on developing products according to value chains and connecting consumer markets.
Brand building, QR code, granting of growing area codes, collective trademarks, certification trademarks, geographical indications, etc. Thanks to that, the output, quality, and design of OCOP products have been improved, contributing to increasing income and creating jobs for hundreds of rural workers. In Yen Binh district, in recent years, specialized agencies have been sent to support OCOP entities from the beginning, to improve production efficiency, enhance the management capacity of enterprises and cooperatives in building product brands for each product. This was added by Mr. La Tuan Hung, Vice Chairman of Yen Binh District People's Committee.
Nearly 6 years of implementing the OCOP program has always been closely associated with the process of building new rural areas in localities, contributing to unleashing the potential of land and products, forming multi-value integrated OCOP products, linking agricultural products with trade, services and tourism. In particular, many localities in Yen Bai province have developed products based on preserving and developing traditional craft villages, forming OCOP products that act as "ambassadors" to convey the stories of craft villages.
Each OCOP product formed in each new rural commune is a separate story, which is the ups and downs, the revival, the expansion and the enhancement of the value of the products. Each place has its own way of doing things, but in general, it has promoted the strengths of the locality, traditions, and production experience of farmers. The final result is the formation of a large raw material area, creating a chain linking 4 houses "Farmers - State - Scientists - Enterprises", thereby creating valuable products, improving economic efficiency for farmers.
In fact, the 3-star OCOP certified product for grapefruit has brought tens of billions of VND to the people of Dai Minh commune, Yen Binh district every year. Thanks to grapefruit trees, people's lives are increasingly improved, contributing to the construction of infrastructure and cultural institutions of the local community. To achieve this result, the local experience is to build a roadmap to develop a specialty fruit tree into an OCOP product widely consumed in the market, such as mobilizing people to establish cooperatives, implementing scientific topics to preserve grapefruit trees, and expanding the consumption market.
According to Ms. Duong Thi Hong Tham, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dai Minh Commune, Yen Binh District, the Party Committee and the commune government regularly pay attention to and coordinate with functional agencies to open training courses to transfer science and technology so that people can apply it in production, thereby increasing the value of grapefruit and maintaining the Dai Minh grapefruit brand.
As one of the first new rural districts of Yen Bai, up to now, Tran Yen district has developed nearly 50 OCOP products with 3 stars or more. Of which, 13 products were recognized in 2023. This result was achieved thanks to the good exploitation of advantages, as well as the participation of Party committees and authorities. Sharing about how to direct the development of OCOP products, including the development of dried banana products, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nga, Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Thanh commune, Tran Yen district, said: Although there is no raw material area, the People's Committee of the commune has mobilized members of the Viet Thanh Agricultural Service Cooperative to research and invest in machinery and processing techniques, to turn purely agricultural products into OCOP products with more value.
From the development of OCOP products, in localities in Yen Bai province, agricultural products have promoted the development of collective economy. OCOP products have created highly competitive products in the market. This is also the group of Economic and Production Organization criteria in the national criteria for new rural construction. Although, there are still many difficulties, such as the output market of some products is not high, many products are still seasonal, the number of deeply processed products is not abundant. However, in parallel with the roadmap for building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas, improving the quality of OCOP products will have more opportunities, better and more effective ways if localities seize the opportunity and are creative in the production process.
