Urgent request to check and trace the origin of fake drug NEXIUM® 40mg

On May 23, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) sent an official dispatch to the health departments of provinces and cities regarding the inspection and tracing of the origin of fake NEXIUM® 40mg used in the treatment of stomach-related diseases.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam said that on May 22, it received an official dispatch and analysis report from the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing, reporting that the product sample had the following information on the label: NEXIUM® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole), batch number: 23H420, expiration date: 9-2027.

The above drug sample does not have information about the circulation registration number and import license number, nor does it have information about the manufacturing facility or the importing facility. The drug sample was taken at Duc Anh Pharmacy under Duc Anh Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Company Limited (at 8 Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Dong Da District, Hanoi). The test results of the drug sample did not meet the quality requirements for the quantitative index of Esomeprazole (only accounting for 17.27% of the content stated on the label).

Counterfeit NEXIUM® 40mg drug packaging

To ensure safety for users, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Hanoi Department of Health to urgently report to the Steering Committee 389 and coordinate with the police, market management agencies, the local Steering Committee 389 and relevant authorities to conduct inspections and examinations of Duc Anh Pharmacy under Duc Anh Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Company Limited; trace the origin of the product batch with information on the label: NEXIUM® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole), no information on the circulation registration number and import license number, no information on the manufacturing facility and importing facility on the label; strictly handle violators; report the results of the inspection, examination and handling to the Drug Administration of Vietnam before May 27.

Local health departments inform drug trading and usage establishments and people not to buy, sell or use the above-mentioned fake NEXIUM® 40mg Enterik Kapli Pellet Tablet (Esomeprazole); only buy and sell drugs at legal pharmaceutical businesses; do not buy or sell drugs of unknown origin; promptly report any suspicious signs of production and trading of fake drugs or drugs of unknown origin to health agencies and relevant authorities.

NEXIUM 40mg is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid.
